The Podunk Bluegrass Music Festival has announced that it will once again be offering its annual songwriting competition. Winners receive cash awards and other amenities, including the opportunity to appear on stage during the August 6-7-8-9 Podunk Festival held in Hebron, CT. The contest entry deadline is May 1, 2015. Rules plus an entry form can be found at the Podunk website, http://www.podunkbluegrass.com

Another interesting aspect of the contest for songwriters is that the band competition finalists will each perform the winning song from the previous year’s songwriters contest during their own competition. It is definitely a highlight of a songwriter’s career to have his or her song performed on stage by four bands before a huge audience.

The bluegrass music based festival has been active for nearly twenty years and has grown from its early beginnings in East Hartford to become a destination event for Connecticut, attracting attendance from all over the world. It also garnered the much sought after Event-of-the-Year-Award from the International Bluegrass Music Association.

With its continuing goal to offer something for everyone, the 19th annual festival will present an array of national bluegrass artists on its primary stage and a whole host of acoustic bands on its Americana stage. In addition to the songwriter and band contests, Podunk also offers a Kid’s Music Academy in which children 9 to 15 will be given a comprehensive four-day learning experience on guitar, banjo, mandolin, fiddle and bass and then participate in a performance on stage during the festival’s Day 4. Also included is an instrument petting zoo, numerous workshops free to attendees covering a host of music-related topics, a variety of food concessions, an array of product and service vendors, supervised activities for kids and their families, including movies, plus camping with around the clock jam sessions and field picking in the camp ground,

All of this happens at the Hebron Lions Fairgrounds, 347 Gilead, Route 85, Hebron, CT. The Podunk Bluegrass Festival is presented each year by an all volunteer Board of Directors. In addition a large amount of volunteers donate their time during the four-day event. If you would like to be a volunteer or to sign up for one of the contests, visit the
Podunk website indicated. If you don’t have Internet access you can call Roger Moss
at 860-828-9818.
