Emphasis Records Announces The Release Of The Album Origins By John Breen
Date: Feb 22, 2015
Origins is an 11 song journey. The concept of the album melodically, musically, and lyrically combines Irish music, the roots of Old Time Country, Folk and Bluegrass. Origins is a musical map of the evolution of Irish music as it emigrated across the ocean and incorporated a variety of new influences in the place it now calls home.
John Breen's voice is the appropriate instrument; he isn't afraid of singing a slow ballad, or drawing hard on old time country or contemporary Celtic folk to sing about something with a broad resonance. Some of these tracks bear the marks of their rich history, while others somehow are surprisingly contemporary. John has a pure powerful singing style traditional of the likes of the legendary Ronnie Drew but infused with a bit of Ernest Tubb, an echo of a 1970 Kris Kristofferson and the ghost of Johnny Cash.
Origins features John Breen: vocals/guitar, Stevie Hawkins: vocals/percussion, Tim Crouch:
Fiddle, Mandolin, Acoustic Guitar, Acoustic Bass, Banjo, Dulcimer and Djembe, Pete Johnson: Pedal Steel Guitar, Cotton Rainey: Dobro and Resonator Guitar, Sara Burke: Celtic Harp
Eamonn Byrne: Irish Tin Whistle and Overton, Jerry Price: Acoustic Guitar and Hammered Dulcimer
Kyla Cassidy: Background Vocals.
Released February 23, 2015, Origins will be available for purchase at Google Play, iTunes, CD Baby, Amazon, emphasisrecords.com, johnbreenmusic.com and atlantamusicgroup.com.
