2010 RELEASE OF WALT CRONIN’S “CALIFORNIA I GOTTA RUN.”
Walt Cronin is releasing his third music CD entitled: “California I
Gotta Run.” “The success of the first CD “The Gousters” © 2005 as an
independent release was incredibly gratifying” says Walt.
Walt posted all thirteen songs of that first CD “The Gousters” for free
down loading on his website www.thegousters.com. It has remained a
favorite on the independent folk radio circuit with songs such as “Make Me
A Kinder Man” and “Only Eighteen,” a memoir of his time in Vietnam.
“The Gousters” remained in the top 50 for 60 weeks on Roots
Music Report. Walt came into his own as a singer-songwriter at the tender
age of 50 debuting on this CD with his friend Zander Schloss.
A lifetime of experiences and being a medic in Vietnam followed by a
somewhat nomadic life afterwards make up a number of the songs in his
repertoire. Emulating the tradition of his heroes such as Pete Seeger, Bob
Dylan, Gillian Welch, The Byrds, John Prine, Iris Dement, Steve Earle and
Jerry Jeff Walker as just a few of his influences.
Soloing on his second CD, Walt acknowledges in retrospect that he
may have rushed somewhat getting the writing, recording and distribution
to internet and college radio stations in record time ( No pun intended.)
That CD entitled: Walt Cronin~The Gousters © 2008 garnered
flattering reviews from Beeb Ashcroft of Indie-Music.com and Sharon
Lunsford of The Back Porch News. “Tender and introspective songs with
the kind of realness and authenticity that is becoming quite rare.” said Beeb
Ashcroft of Indie Music.
The title of the 2nd CD may have caused some confusion since the title
of the first CD with Walt’s former writing partner was called simply: “The
Gousters.” “California I Gotta Run” will be his third release. Walt spent
over a year writing and crafting these new songs before bringing them to his
arranger and producer Martin Beal of The Racketroom in Santa Ana, CA.
Walt and Martin spent several months on and off in the studio fine
tuning and enhancing these 13 songs that reflect the sincerity of folk music
history. The sheer variety of songs on this CD stretch between a whimsical
teenage love story, circa 1950’s ( I’ll Find The One ) to the very real
issues Walt has faced with his demons from his time in Vietnam. Dealing
with isolation and substance abuse while desperately pleading to hold onto
the woman he loves. ( Promises Made )
(Awake In A Dream) is an ethereal voyage of the mind and heart,
soaring the listener into an almost transcendental state. The long time love
for his wife shows in other heartfelt songs such as (Together We’ll Be)
and (Shining Through.) (Angel Wings) is country folk inspired by his
Grandfather’s philosophy of life. (A Boy Of Purest Wonder) is the story of
a young man searching for his dreams in a time long past. (No Shame In
Cryin) is a message of hope to the new generation of returning veterans.
These are but a few of his new songs, whether whimsical, fanciful or
raw emotions concerning life and love, Walt’s truths are woven with the care
of his folk story-telling talents, combined with melodies that are beautifully
arranged and produced with Walt’s friend Martin Beal.
I have no doubt the listener will be entranced listening to his stories
on this CD with the album title of the song of leaving California to fulfill a
life-long dream of rural simplicity on this, his most creative effort:
Walt Cronin ~ California I Gotta Run.
