Upstate Strong Recordings is pleased to announce the new release by Erik Viel and The Eastern Flyers, titled “Whitehorse.” The new CD is an amalgam of rock, country, blues and bluegrass.
Erik Viel has once again produced an album with little to no regard for musical boundaries. Although the album covers a wide range of musical ground, there is an undeniable thread connecting each song to the next. As is expected, the album shines with excellent instrumental arrangements and performances. What may come as a surprise to some is the introduction of new instrumentation (trombone, accordion, melodica and harmonium) and an increased emphasis on vocal harmonies. The result is the best music yet from this talented Georgia outfit.
Unlike the bands last release which was almost entirely original material, “Whitehorse” includes covers from The Eagles, The Allman Brothers, Bob Dylan, Marshall Tucker, Gram Parsons and Cat Stevens among others. Returning musicians from their previous album include Chris Corso, Andrew Black, George Sandler, Rob Alwine and Nick Gravelding. New to the fold on “Whitehorse” are Jon Schwenke on bass, Jason LaMarca on drums and Marcus Lewis on trombone.
