Online media consumption and Industry trends for 2010. How is hip-hop being affected by the digital revolution and what can we expect from artists in the coming months.

The internet has become a massive churning pot of milky musicians with hungry music labels around the rim skimming cream off the surface. The music industry has never been this exciting.. Many of the major labels most recent signings have had to endure an arduous journey of online development before they were even considered.

Artists such as Kid Cudi, Asher Roth and Bumblebee have all had to endure years of online promotion before they developed a strong enough online following to secure the widespread attention of major labels. Kid Cudi's debut release "Day 'n' Nite" was circulating online for three years before it finally broke into the charts. Asher Roth was discovered after he had caused a storm on myspace with his remix of Lil Wayne's "A Milli" and the mysterious Bumblebee entered the public eye with his hugely successful "iRainbows" campaign on Facebook.

I would have to disagree with anyone who believes that the music industry is facing a downturn. Musicians can now distributed their content with mainstream outlets such as Amazon, iTunes and Spotify while receiving a significant proportion of their own royalties.
