Originally net label Dying Giraffe Recordings has announced their return on internet. This Dutch indie label started in 2004 as an online promotion platform to offer bands a free spot on their website to give them a chance to promote their music to a worldwide audience.
Although this platform was pretty popular, the founders of Dying Giraffe decided to change their format. In 2006 they started to focus on record label and distribution activities. Since then, Dying Giraffe successfully put 16 releases on the international market.
The fast growth and their success seemed to cause the end of this indie label though. In 2008 Dying Giraffe was off the internet. Was Dying Giraffe really dying? Label owner Ingmar Jahn says: “Well, we always believed in the immortality of Dying Giraffe Recordings. But when we started to run a record label we didn’t expect a fast growth and having success in a very short time. We were not really prepared for that. To prevent ourselves, we had to take a break. During this break we re-organized our company and structure. It took us more than a year, but since March 2009 we’re back and ready again to continue stretching our neck out for our artists!”.
Dying Giraffe covers alternative rock, indie rock, post-rock and singer-songwriter. Besides building up their own roster, they also started to collaborate with other indie record labels, which is a great opportunity for further developing their network and helping out record labels willing to penetrate the Benelux music scene (Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg).
