Washington, D.C. – March 16, 2009 - 76 Degrees West Band will be performing live on Tuesday, March 17th at Voice of America in Washington, D.C. Their interview, along with a live performance in support of their self-titled debut CD, 76 Degrees West Band, will begin at 1030AM.

Since 2001, this Washington, D.C. based Nu-Jazz/Funk band has performed at various festivals and clubs around the country with prestigious artists such as 2 Time Grammy-Nominee Ledisi, Maysa, Marcus Johnson, Rahsaan Patterson, Lynne Fiddmont, Grammy-Nominee Victor Duplaix, and more. They enrapture audiences with a sound that is reminiscent of classic bands such as Earth Wind & Fire and Frankie Beverly & Maze.

Dusty Groove at www.dustygroove.com describes their sound as “a smooth bit of funky jazz...a cool combo with a nice sort of bounce in their groove.”

Produced by Perfect Image Entertainment, 76 Degrees West Band showcases not only 8 exceptionally gifted musicians in Leon Rawlings - Band director, bassist/trombonist; Eddie Baccus, Jr. (Pieces of a Dream) – saxophone; Theljon Allen – trumpet; Vince Evans – keyboards; Sean Chase – drums; Alfredo Mojica – percussions; Stanley Cooper – guitarist; De’Andre Schaiffer – flugel/trumpet, but also features songwriting and vocal talent from some of the top names in the independent music industry including Grammy Award-Winner Gordon Chambers, Angela Johnson, Jimmy Sommers and Allyn Johnson.

The album’s first single is their funky, go-go tinged cover of the Average White Band’s classic, “School Boy Crush” and proves their versatility in weaving instrumental jazz seamlessly with contemporary beats. Undoubtedly a party favorite, “School Boy Crush” has quickly garnered the attention of Washington D.C.’s WHUR, The Michael Baisden Show and The Swissgroove Channel. Come on out and let 76 Degrees West Band show you how to get your party started right.
