FIRST TIME FILM COMPOSER WINS AWARD AT FILM FESTIVAL
Me-Lee, the Artist Behind Mozaika, wins “Best Composer” at Short Film Festival in Sydney

Classical, electro composer Me-Lee Hay was asked to compose music for Karen Crespo’s film “Shades of Desire” last year and was awarded Best Composer when it was screened at Palace Twin Cinemas in Darlinghurst Sydney at Sydney Film School’s short film Festival (2008).

“Shades of Desire” was the first film Me-Lee has written specifically for the purpose of film and it tells as story of a dancer’s journey into finding her true artist within. The film is purely in a dance form which is Me-Lee’s other great love in the arts.

Film director and writer Karen Crespo was ecstatic about the music stating “it really is an integral part to the story telling of the piece”. Inspired by the likes of the Bach cello suites and Frates, Me-Lee wrote the music as the cello, (which is her second instrument) being the main story telling “voice”.

Me-Lee has been inspired to compose more for film and dance based on this experience and is in the process of re-writing Mozaika songs (her solo project) as instrumentals to be submitted for film projects. She is also composing another piece for dancer Ela Markstein which will be performed at the Short and Sweet Dance festival at the prestigious Seymour Centre in Sydney in late February 2008.

Me-Lee is the brainchild behind Mozaika, a classical/electro project that is in the realm of Tori Amos, Lamb and Bjork. Mozaika’s debut album was released last year with an accompanying tour to UK and Europe and is available at major internet distributors including iTunes (www.mozaika.mu; www.myspace.com/mozaika)
