Demand For Junkstar’s Debut EP Reaches An Unexpected Level
After selling all of their limited edition, hand-painted pre-release EP’s in just three nights on tour in Europe, Junkstar are eager to unveil their long-awaited official release of debut EP ‘Magazine’ to the public on the 2nd of March 2009.
In-between building up an extensive army of deadly loyal fans during their busy touring schedule, London-based synth rock heroes Junkstar have been working with producer Jessica Corcoran (Maximo Park, Shed 7, Boy George) to record their debut EP ‘Magazine’. Released by Smoky Carrot Records, the EP comes as a bundle package featuring a 7’’ vinyl containing lead single ‘Magazine’ and future anthem ‘Sound of the City’ with a five track version on a bonus CD. The digital dowload version is to be distributed by The Orchard. For Junkstar’s Dutch tour earlier this year, Smoky Carrot Records issued a pre-release, limited supply of the EP to satisfy the demand for merchandise that Junkstar are used to being harassed for after their stunning live performances. Each CD case was individually hand-painted by German artist Aneka Oehme and completely different from the rest of the batch. As predicted demand was high with nearly all copies sold in the first three nights.
With their unique synthed influenced pop-rock sound, Junkstar have been selected to support a wide range of acts over the past year including We Are Scientists, Fight Like Apes, The Others, Wendy James’ Racine, The Icarus Line, and Sam Beeton. It is now time for Junkstar to take the limelight themselves. Smoky Carrot Records co-founder Paul Perrelet states “Having known Junkstar for the past year and seeing their fan-base grow, we knew we had to get this record out as fast as possible. Last week we set up a pre-order account for the release, and we’ve had a larger amount of pre-orders than expected. That’s impressive for a previously-unsigned band without the media hype surrounding them.”
However, the media are starting to catch on. BBC 6 Music are broadcasting an interview feature and plan major airplay of the single ‘Magazine’ with positive live and single reviews coming through from NME, UK Music Review among others. It looks like ‘Magazine’ is set to propel Junkstar into the media spotlight after all!
