INDIE ARTISTS PAY TRIBUTE TO DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.

On November 4, a call for change was heard round the world. It was a call that could be argued to have originated in Montgomery, Alabama some fifty years ago by a young minister named Martin. Dr. King’s dream of justice, equality, and respect for all individuals and his message of peaceful empowerment have inspired countless other dreamers, including President-elect Barack Obama. Had Dr. King’s life not been cut short, he would have celebrated his 80th birthday on January 15, 2009. Part of this year’s celebration is Dream On! – a musical tribute created by a collaboration of independent artists dedicated to continuing the dream of a King.

The idea for Dream On! was born on Dr. King’s birthday last January – inspired by a recently rediscovered sermon given by King at Temple Israel in Hollywood, CA, in 1965. The sermon spoke of the insuppressible power of love. And Dr. King’s voice – that amazing, unmistakable voice – reached over the airwaves to awaken yet another dreamer, Maya Armstrong, a writer, who would soon launch herself into the role of music producer.

Almost one year to the day later, Dream On! will launch amidst pre-inaugural excitement, reminding the world to take a moment and look back… not so very long ago… and pay tribute to a man, his dream, and the movement that he led. The participating artists hail from Los Angeles, California to Melbourne, Australia, and their styles of music range from soulful rhythm and blues to heartfelt folk to upbeat Indie rock. The two-disc set is comprised of 30 tracks, which also will be available for FREE download from the website (www.thedreamcontinued.org). That’s right – FREE. All of these award-winning artists (including LA’s Dry September, Nashville’s Team iLLuMiNaTi, and Vancouver’s Bonnie Ste. Croix) have donated their music so that their interpretations of Dr. King’s message may continue to inspire countless others and will help raise money for charities that we believe Dr. King would have supported (a list of our partnering nonprofits will be announced shortly).

This January, join us in celebrating the life and work of one of the greatest figures in US history. Let our music inspire you to dream and let it awaken you into action. Dream On!
