"Black and White" – a song written by Mike Hyden and the one that was judged to best embrace the passions of Sandra James – has been chosen as the winner of the Sandra James Music Foundation Songwriting Contest. Mike will be awarded $1000 for his efforts.

The four Finalists, each winners of a $500 prize, are:

"Dream of Peace" by Tina Dominquez
"I Never Knew I Could Fly" by Erin Coombs Friedman
"Hope" by John Seay
"Heaven on Earth" by Olatunji Talabi

Also awarded $500 and an Honorable Mention is "One Lonely Sparrow" by Ron Vaughan.

Singer and songwriter Sandra James succumbed to cancer over 3 years ago, but her spirit lives on through the Sandra James Foundation. The foundation – created by Sandra before her passing – was charged with using the proceeds of her estate to convey the message that together we can make a better world. In order to promote their continuing good works and amplify Sandra's message, the foundation instituted this contest.

The foundation would like to thank all of the participants for their entries.
