STAY-AT-HOME DAD RELEASES FREE INDEPENDENT ONLINE ALBUM

February 26, 2008 -- Musician and stay-at-home-dad Dan Kinsley releases his free independent online album "Antidepressant Blues".

Dan Kinsley recorded the entirety of the album while his son was sleeping, either during afternoon naps or after the boy's bedtime. Luckily for Dan, the basement where the recording was done was isolated enough from the boy's room so as not to disturb his sleep.

"Since the only place I could record was the basement my main goal was to make it sound like it wasn't recorded in a basement. I didn't really have the ability to record it anywhere else. I had to take care of my son. I couldn't leave the house and go off to a studio. The basement was the only option. So I'd put the baby monitor on silent mode each day and night and go to work." Dan adds, "Another goal was to avoid spending any money on the production. It would have been easy to go out and buy new equipment but by forcing myself not to spend any money I was able to solve problems creatively rather than monetarily."

Additionally, the album was recorded with borrowed microphones on a hand-me-down computer Dan obtained from a distant in-law. "Most creative endeavors are defined by the limitations that existed during their creation and I'd been wanting to make a solo album for a long time and finally just decided to use what I had on hand, instead of waiting around for conditions that weren't going to exist any time soon," said Dan, speaking of making "Antidepressant Blues" while still managing to fulfill the duties of being a stay-at-home dad.

In addition to producing the album himself, Dan also sang and played all but one of the instruments that appears on the album, including: guitars, keyboards, basses, melodica, percussion and drum programming.
