The Erie Canal Discovery Center, which is part of the Niagara County Historical Society, is sponsoring a song contest for songs about the locks or the canal. More information and an application can be found at the website.

The song contest is being held to coincide with the opening of the canal season and the annual "Key to the Locks" ceremony. The "Key to the Locks" ceremony applauds a local stalwart citizen for their community service.

This is the first attempt at a song contest and a modest number of entries are expected. Together with the award ceremony and reinactors and the music contest it should be a lot of fun.
