LOCAL SONGWRITER GETS NATIONAL ATTENTION
Date: July 15, 2007
MN, August 2007 - Duluth native, Dennis Allen Cooke, recently received the honor of being named a finalist for May, 2007, and a runner-up for March, 2007, by the Song of the Year (www.songoftheyear.com) songwriting contest. Song of the Year is an international songwriting contest supporting VH-1’s Save the Music Foundation. The Song of the Year judges are some of the biggest names in music including many Grammy Award winners.
Song of the Year is excited to recognize Dennis for his exceptional songwriting ability for the songs “Single Mom’s Blues” (finalist in the Country category for May) and “Stand Up and Be Counted” (runner-up in the Gospel category for March). Dennis competed against songwriters from all over the world for this honor. When asked what inspired the song “Single Mom’s Blues”, Dennis commented, “I wrote it in honor of my daughter, Jenny, and her brave but difficult times learning to cope as a single mother. What inspired me to write “Stand Up and Be Counted” was to portray the average Christian person attending church on Sundays and being rewarded for their faith.”
Currently Dennis is concentrating on his songwriting career while hoping to land one of his songs on a record deal with a major music label. He says, “I have a 16-song Gospel/Country CD out with an independent record company and am working with them on a 21-song Gospel Album. It would be nice, however, to have one or more of my songs selected for production with a big-time distribution company.
