CD REVIEW: Zakas - Skunk Daddy Grind
By Ben Ohmart - 05/21/2007 - 10:34 AM EDT

Artist: Zakas
Genre: Rock
CD Review:
Grind it is then. Don't play it for your cat though, or you'll never see pussy again. 'Flying Two Kites' is rather progressive metal that often takes a break from itself to zip in some other-styles. For instance, this first song has some African-type beats that I wouldn't readily associate with the devilish guitars at hand. That's just while the guitarist is hosing down. Near the 6 minute mark there's an interesting Yes break, with a verbal yawn/stretch thrown in. Then there's 'Bunechu Shenobi', an Indian set-up, before the deep booming voice comes in to narrate like that guy doing 'The Torchum Never Stops' in Thing-Fish. Enough different styles and voices to make several bands. I admire their diversity, and would love to see them do a rock opera. They would define the genre.
