CD Review:
A long relaxing voyage in r&b/soul/jazz and funk music. A 15 song album, with 5 remixes at the end by top re-mixers around the globe. The warm face of this beautiful Canadian lady welcomes you with an inviting smile on the cover of the cd. So the least you can do is play and listen carefully.
When I first listened to this album, I thought it was good but not so special. But the more I listened the more the album grew on me and when I listen to it now I really love it. The sounds of the album are alive, full of rhythmic bass riffs and catchy percussion beats; all surrounded by a passionate woman’s voice.
The production is first level with great arrangements. Very nice touches can be found on a song like “Same old”, with its brilliant acid trumpet that also does a great job on the next song “Inna B flat”. While the next song “Why” gets its gifts from a magic acoustic guitar and a tenor saxophone. The best vocal performance on the album is on the emotional song “Outflow” where Sharon really sends you shivers with a very strong interpretation. That is the moment when you realize you’re listening to a unique talent, her voice is versatile, fresh and warm at the same time. Even if there are many cds coming out today of the same musical style, and many can be boring after a while or if lucky just sound all alike, this album has that something that lets you want to listen again and again.
It is probably her style, with its clear singing, that gives a unique imprint to this record and its music. There are high chances that with time and confidence this singer will gain a permanent seat at soul and r&b’s high table.
