CD REVIEW: Lucy Mongrel - Why Love Lucy?
By Ben Ohmart - 05/21/2007 - 10:34 AM EDT

Artist: Lucy Mongrel
Genre: Alternative
CD Review:
Because she's wacko.

You see, this is female Bowie at its most characterized. Imagine Carol Channing being asked to do a rock-hillbilly song, and you may have some idea of what to expect in 'Meet in the Streets'. Lucy says it's Middle Eastern collides with banjos. I say it's Little Nell's album after Rocky Horror. With a few bars off to sound normal. 'Who's Been Sleeping in my Bed' steals a classic, old 3/4 beat tune that I can't name. She makes every song her own, that's for sure. My favorite might be 'Five Years Ago', since it's laced with bongos or etc. drums, vocals, just one of the best put together tracks, radio quality without the ol' mainstream trouble rearin' up. She may look like Morticia Addams, but she's scary in a different way. She's going her own direction in the big biz of music.
