CD REVIEW: Haunted Groove
By Ben Ohmart - 05/21/2007 - 10:34 AM EDT
Artist: Band: Haunted Groove
Genre: Rock
CD Review:
3 songs, but they pack a punch I can't explain. Except for whimping out with a simple definition of rock, I'm stuck. Granted, the beginning of this short ep-cd sounds like an old beach movie, recorded in stereo of course, until the vocals come in like a slurring wino complaining to the passing hands that won't give out with the cash. Yes, like some of the subtle rock from Dawn of the Dead, I'm reminded of an old horror movie that's great yet unrecognized for its greatness. Perhaps the cover of the haunted mansion helps me see the wrong analogy here, but still I must waste words until I get about a paragraph written in the direction of a review on a band I just can't place. Am I through yet? Well, the playing is good or great, and the spirited electric guitar comes on now and then like a demon that's just been plugged in. You'll keep thinking there's a story somewhere in here gluing the whole thing together. When you figure it out, email me.
