CD REVIEW: Steven B. Eulberg - Hark, the Glad Sound!
By Ben Ohmart - 05/21/2007 - 10:34 AM EDT
Artist: Steven Eulberg
Genre: Holiday
CD Review:
A cd I'm definitely keeping in my own collection. 'Mountain Dulcimer Ensembles. Hymns for the Season of Advent.' I live in a small town, and at Christmas, when I walk around the small, quaint shops, I hear loads of music like this coming out of hidden corners. Wonderful. You see, it's not the average, ordinary Christmas songs. Oh yes, it begins with a very different sounding 'O Come, O Come Emmanuel', but when you really get into it with wonderfully built classics like 'Prepare the Royal Highway' and 'Savior of the Nations, Come' (with its wonderful flute and uptempo praise), you find yourself in a holiday mood EASILY without ever coming across a Silent Night, thank the Lord.
16 songs, over 50 minutes - and all exotic instrumentals. Let's not forget these odd instruments accompanying Steve: Hammered Dulcimer, Bowed Psaltery, Irish hand drum, African Drum, bells and Shekere. Also, no need to wait for next Christmas. If you enjoy low blood pressure and jogging in the country, here ya go.
