CD Review: Boy with a fish, what a nice original name for a rock band. The guys come from Ithaca, NY and are Jeff Claus (guitar and vocals), Judy Hyman (electric violin and vocals), Rick Hansen (moog, organ, accordion), Jay Olsa (bass), and Ryan Cady (drums). This is their second release after the first album “Birds fly backwards” received a very warm welcome from radios and listeners all over the world.

It is impressive reading the list of collaborators of this album that also include Grammy winners sound engineers Patt Dillet and Will Russell. The production is in fact first class and it hits you from the first listen, mastering and mixing are excellent. Arrangements are well thought out, with their crudity they are able to give the whole record a personal unique style. Something not easy to find nowadays. The rock direct sound of this cd makes you feel the all the tremors and passions of this band members that first of all must be music lovers.

It is a collection of solid rock songs that span from singer/songwriters style to indie rock. They often remind me of the best Neil Young, and this is sure a great compliment.

Hard hitting guitars alternate with soft sounding unplugged sound. Lyrics are impressive, never humdrum or banal they paint the songs with great colors.

The vocals are emotional, intimate and rock sounding but their best quality is that they have their own personal way. Highly recognizable among thousands.

A very good record from a group of professional musician and great music composers, I believe their career will be a long and gratifying one.
