About Me

I'm 53 years old, retired from a 30 year career as a professional illustrator and designer.

I was in my first band at age 16. My father raised me on classical music, jazz and blues, and the rock of his generation, sharing everything with me from Wagner, Bethoven and Mozart to Tony Bennet, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Connie Francis, and of course, the incredible Ms. Patsy Cline... to Joe Cocker, America, Three Dog Night, Simon and Garfunkle, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Crosby Stills Nash and Young, Janis Joplin and Steppenwolf.

Later in my adolescence, when I began to choose my own music, I drifted towards groups like Styx, Kansas, Pat Travers, Robin Trower, Ted Nugent, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Led Zeppelin, Uriah Heep, Deep Purple, Genesis, Alan Parsons, Aerosmith, Thin Lizzy, Foreigner, Cheap Trick, Rush, Pat Benatar, Joan Jett, 38 Special, Jefferson Starship... this list could go on a long ways.

I've always been a rocker. My hay day was the mid 80's to mid 90's, and I love hard rock and metal from that period.

I made a living in a circuit band for almost 4 years in the late 80's, and have sold a couple of originals over the years. To the best of my knowledge, none of the songs I have sold has ever been produced and/or released. From what I've been told, it's common for this to happen.

I am what some folks call a "one man band" I play rhythm and lead guitar, bass and keys. I write my own lyrics and sing, lead, harmony and backing vocals. I don't play drums (never could learn to do 5 things at the same time!), but I do use a program called "Addictive Drums" to create hand crafted fully original drums tracks, note by note, strike by strike.

My DAW's are Adobe Audition CS6.0 and Reaper 4.

My weapons of choice are:

2006 Jackson Soloist Uber hot EMG humbucker pick ups in the bridge and neck positions. Red sunburst finish, with those slim curving triangle inserts on the fretboard. Maple fretboard over a neck through fretboard and body. I hit a chord and go make coffee, the sustain is so insane. She's a working man's soloist... I paid $550 for her. If she cost any more, I'd be too afraid to scratch her to really enjoy playing her. The longer she and I stay a team the less it seems I could ever play anything else.

ESP LTD B-50 bass. Simple, straight forward, fast and sleek. A real "meat and potatoes" bass guitar. She's got a black satin finish with a maple fretboard.

Yamaha PSR E423 keyboard. Nothing special here. I'm no "Rick Wakeman", so I don't play a $5K keyboard!

Blue encore 200 mic. A nice blend of stage ready, beefy, "bang it around" mic, and still something good enough to handle 48Khz or 96Khz studio recording work.

I use a Line 6 Pod Pro
rack unit to voice all my guitars and bass, and run everything through a BBE 882i sonic maximizer to sweeten the tones. This all runs into an Akai EIE Pro interface.

Everything runs out to iKEy Audio 808v2 8 inch powered monitors.

I've been a member here for a shade over three years now. My reasons for continuing my membership have evolved over that time. In general, this site has strong, fair leadership, plenty of seasoned, talented senior members, and a nice mix of veteran and beginning musicians.

After three years, I am still glad I joined. I think that pretty much says it all.
