I am no environmentalist and wrote this only because I thought it could be a hit. I took it to Al Gore's office in Nashville, but he was not in.
If anyone can sing this better than I, the track is downloadable at my site.

We're floating on a grain of sand in the vastness of space
If future generations are going to inherit this place
We've got to Save The Planet
Do something while there's still time
Save The Planet
This earth is yours and mine
The tropical rainforest is disappearing more everyday
We'll never replace it, we'd better not burn it away
Save The Planet
The wonders of nature are free
Save The Planet
Have you ever planted a tree?
If the skies are blue
And the oceans too
Isn't this a better home for me and you?
If the air is clean
And the land is green
Wouldn't you like to be part of this lovely scene?
solo
I'm thinking of the animals that once roamed the African plain
Their numbers have dwindled, pretty soon none will remain
Save The Planet
Do something while there's still time
Save The Planet
This earth is yours and mine
Save The Planet
The wonders of nature are free
Save The Planet
Have you ever planted a tree?
Save The Planet
Save The Planet
Save The Planet
Save The Planet
Save The Planet, Save The Planet
Save The Planet, Save The Planet
Save The Planet, Save The Planet
Save The Planet, Save The Planet
Save The Planet
Save The Planet

Musically I like it . It`s very retro and flows really well . Lyrically / melody wise I just dont think it fits together. The melody doesnt seem to fit the track in places . I would rethink the melody and the chord changes. The concept is great . I think it could be a hit , bit it definately needs some rethinking .

Jim,
I like the music. Actually reminded me a bit of when Gordon Lightfoot was told to be more "pop sounding" and released the "Shadows" album. But I like the music a lot. I think it works. But I think the vocal melody doesn't fit the music. The sounds too bland. Not your vocals, the "melody". As it stands right now, I can see this song being played on a children's educational show about the environment and all the kids clapping in beat to the song. But I don't feel it wouldn't get any traction other than that.
While "Save The Planet" is the apparent hook, it doesn't hook into in thing for me. It feels simply as a statement. The list of what we should all do to save the planet seems to be just that. A list. There's nothing interesting being said about saving the planet.
For years I used a signature tag "Save Yourself, Plant Trees or Play Music" ..... ( my family and I have planted thousands of trees on our small farm n Kentucky)
Still, I like and really appreciate the song.

Al Gore has an office in Nashville... Who knew? I knew he had gone into a partership with a guy from UK whose name was David Blood. The firm was Blood and Gore. Serious. Look it up.
I listened to just the music track w/o the words, and it was very good.

I like the music Jim - like it a lot actually. Found myself trying to sing it.
But you do a fine job singing it - I like the song.
I do agree with Zeek about the lyric being too direct - but it does sound really polished.
This was a really nice listen for me
Nice one Jim

Your effort shows in the production.. This reminds of of a piece that is played while educating young children as a tool to hold their attention ... Easy to listen too but also lots of subtle bells and whistles.. much enjoyed..

Hey there Jim......I think the musical production is your typically outstanding job!!!
The melody is a little generic, as are the words, however. The music seems much more sophisticated than the song writting....as though they were put together by two diffrent entities.
As far as singing...well, I would just be wasting all of our time trying
Funny thought.....I, too, had a song that I wanted to give to Al Gore. A Greeny lyric with an ubber lib message......I can't understand why he never wrote back!!!
I'll be posting it one of these days.....got to change a phrase in the chorus.

Hi Jim - regardless of the lyrics I think the music is brilliant as a stand alone track. Great pace and variety, I could see it being used for no end of projects. I'm trying to remain positive about my songs but you guys are so good. Hope Al Gore gets to hear it. StevieG

Even taking into account the cynical reasons for creating something like this -there's alot i like about this tune Jim..
The sudden leap into the chorus after the 2 lines is really cool n unexpected -and the 2nd 'Save the Planet' on the chorus set against that new minor chord is a treat..
The whole thing moves thru musically in a really cool, well crafted n satisfying pop way f'sure ..
Saying that theres a general insincere glibness to the lyric thats more humorous than heartfelt or touching 'Have you ever planted a tree ?' lol - especially when we know your motives for creating it..
