What's It Worth? A question to be answered

What's it worth to us, this world?
This place we hang our warm coats and settle in for the night
Too comfortable for words
While the boiling oceans rage against the shorelines
Washing debris out to sea with foreign insects and dark skinned children
What's it worth to us, this world?
This place that feeds us as we lap up its gravy with our big mouths
Toast our good fortune
While deserts invade fields and forests
Conquering them in places we still taste on our knives and forks
What's it worth to us, this world?
This heaven of heathens, who worship the God of Plenty
The God of Give Me
While the Goddess of Nature is mocked and thrown in prison for treason
Sentenced by the turning of the blind eye and the churning out of cheap stuff
What's it worth to us, this world?
If not our appreciation
If not our attention
If not a global sacrifice
Then what?
This place we hang our warm coats and settle in for the night
Too comfortable for words
While the boiling oceans rage against the shorelines
Washing debris out to sea with foreign insects and dark skinned children
What's it worth to us, this world?
This place that feeds us as we lap up its gravy with our big mouths
Toast our good fortune

While the Goddess of Nature is mocked and thrown in prison for treason
Sentenced by the turning of the blind eye and the churning out of cheap stuff
What's it worth to us, this world?
If not our appreciation
If not our attention
If not a global sacrifice
Then what?

Wow, yeah. I can so relate to this.
"The God of Give me" - totally!
"Lap up it's gravy with our big mouths" - beautiful.
So many lines in this articulately describe something that I am deeply angry, sad and ashamed of.

I feel your emotion in the piece Jonie.
I’m just wondering if it could be felt even more so if you were to enlighten the listener on some metaphors that were equally as positive
as the ones you create that are the opposite in meaning.
Describing both extremes of any observation, to me anyway, gives a perspective that opens my soul up to not just the situations,
but to the possible solutions.
What I’m trying to say is that if something feels too unbearable to overcome, it will probably remain too unthinkable to resolve.
Peace.

Very cool, David. I like the way your pen flows.
Anyone else who may feel inspired to continue this on with their own ideas, please feel free to do so.
