Ha - The Thinman is first out of the landing craft once again !!

Where are you all ? Bunch of snipe bidders if you ask me !

Well try and beat this one - yer got one chance and that's no chance

Oooops, forgot it is democratic so maybe you do have a slight outside chance.
In fact, now I come to think of it, the whole world is doomed while democracy prevails 49.9% of people want one thing and 50.1% want the other leaves 49.9% of people pissed man ! It's a recipe for disaster - I'm telling yer.

In The City
© ANeckender Music

I walk through city arches
Who built this corner of the universe
Tunnels of light and darkness
The marks we make upon this earth
And the steel glass buildings
That litter the banks of a river
I’m anxious what the light brings
With it’s message to deliver
And I’m suspicious of the shadows
Of light years passing by
I found out where the time goes
I never found out why

I watch the women waiting
In their black high heeled shoes
The traffic is impatient
They all got the Highway Blues
The day is falling
Just like all the rest
All the wasted moments
I so really meant to invest
In looking at clouds assembled
To mark pathways to the stars
Like where I saw an angel
from the back seat of car

I walked into a gallery
To see the yellow chair
Thick paint just where you left it
Almost like you were still there
If I could paint then I would paint
The views of heaven and earth
Women that might tempt a saint
Just to leave him in the dirt
Or maybe an old couple in an orchard
With sunlight on their hands
Looking back instead of forward
at all of their plans

Hi ....

My first ever entry :) Acoustic Guitar w/Vocals - Style/Genre: Americana

Title: You Ain't Here Anymore
Written by: Chapman Jones

http://soundclick.co....cfm?id=9855530

Lyrics:

In the deepest cobalt blue of a moon lit night
The swayin' of the water's capped with sapphire light
We picked up some flat rocks and skipped them on the lake
Mine went out to five and yours went out to eight

As the ripples in the water made their circles back to shore
It seemed to take forever maybe a little bit more
And we sat there on the bank with my head in your lap
It's a shame we don't have anymore nights like that

[BREAK]

Up at five thirty, a little butter on my toast
Looking out the window, did I see shadows of a ghost
I guess it's just my eyes playing those worn out jokes
You know, the kind you get when ya got someone in your heart that ya miss

Picked up my car keys and my old leather coat
Kind of chilly out there this morning, I don't wanna get cold
Can't find my gloves, do you know where I might have laid them down and then I swore
Damn, I keep forgetting, I keep forgetting, I keep forgetting you ain't here anymore

[CHORUS OR JUST A BRIDGE]
My head's all a-shambles, my thoughts keep a ramblin
My heart is a-aching for you girl
There's no way I can turn, without feeling the burn
Cause you ain't here anymore

The lights are low and the flicker of the candles seem to dance
I got it in my mind tonight I might have half a chance
A waiter brought the menu, snapped his fingers for some wine
But I never learn French so you had to order mine

We sat there with you trying to teach me how to say je t'aime (I love you)
You were laughing so hard and asked if I'd been smoking hemp
I said I'll never speak French but I know how to love you back
It's a shame we don't have anymore nights like that

[BREAK]

A dusting of a winters snow blows to the edge of the street
Man, I just hate the cold because it hates my feet
I'll bring in some kindlin wood and fire up some heat
You know, I think I heard them calling for an inch or two of snow

Hey babe, I'll warm up the coffee, if you don't mind
I'd like to make a fresh pot, but I don't wanna take the time
What are you doin, hon, are you busy, it's awful quiet in there, and then I swore
Damn, I keep forgetting, I keep forgetting, I keep forgettin, you ain't here anymore

[CHORUS]

On the deepest cobalt blue of a moon lit night
The swayin of the water's capped with sapphire light
And we sat there on the bank with my head in your lap
It's a shame we don't have anymore nights like that
It's a shame we don't have anymore nights like that
There ain't no more nights like that.....

Big Bottom Girl
Written and performed by Soddy Bottoms

Hey Pretty Lady I like your Style

Ah pretty lady I've learned your type

I 've been here before damn near lost my mind

Ah pretty baby you be lookin so sweet

It's a shame shame shame your so damn mean

Chorus

I'll take a cheese burger baby some fries on the side

and a big bottomed girl that 'll treat me right

Gimmee a cheese burger baby some fries on the side

and a big bottomed girl that 'll treat me right

I say hey pretty lady you got to go

Can't let you put the hurt on this boy

I say hey pretty lady full of misery

Takes more than a package for a boy like me
I have been fortunate enough to get a great bite of the Apple of Life. One thing I know for sure. Watch out for the Worms!

Wow! Some good stuff already! I think I've already heard my winner!

I had some mind-changing on what to enter, but settled on this.

How It Goes

Alistair S

[Verse 1]
Thatís how it goes. (Thatís how it goes).
Itís like picking through a pile of dead menís clothes,
Hoping you might find a clue, but there's so few of those.
Thatís how it goes.

Thatís how it goes. (Thatís how it goes).
She said sheíd be back soon, but never showed.
You bawled her out and bust her lip, you broke her pretty nose;
Thatís how it goes.

[CH]
(But) There are times, old lad, it all goes bad and you canít make it right,
Itís way too late for you, old mate, to claim youíve seen the light.
Sheís black and blue, but so are you,
Nothingís black and white.

[Verse 2]
Thatís how it goes. (Thatís how it goes).
Sheís got your number now - never phones.
Thereís no one left for you to blame. You got here on your own.
Thatís how it goes.

Thatís how it goes. (Thatís how it goes).
Youíre digging deep, but youíre just digging holes.
Your brutal soul cannot control the way the eight-ball rolls.
Thatís how it goes.

[Bridge]
Thereís ups and downs, thereís highs and then thereís lows.
Lost and found and goodbyes and hellos.
Your name ends on some granite stones, all lined up in rows.
Thatís how it goes, man,
Thatís how it goes.

[CH]
(But) There are times, old lad, it all goes bad and you canít make it right,
Itís way too late for you, old mate, to claim youíve seen the light.
Sheís black and blue, but so are you,
Nothingís black and white.

"When I was 5 years old, my mum always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wante to be when I grew up. I wrote down, "Happy". The told me I didn't understand the assignment and I told them they didn't understand life." John Lennon.

Go For It

By Jason Kalman

Verse I
Don’t let your dreams go
Follow them to where they lead you
If all the world would tear you down
Live your life and keep your head held high

Chorus
Don’t live your life with regrets
Just go for it
Don’t sit home
For life to happen
You work for it
You pay for it

Verse II
Knock down every door
That ever get’s between you and your dreams
Break down every wall
There is no time to find a way around

Chorus
Don’t live your life with regrets
Just go for it
Don’t sit home
For life to happen
You work for it
You pay for it

Bridge
Battered from rejection
You’ll find hope in time
Ready to call it quits
You will find you’ve arrived
To a place you have dreamt all your life

Verse III
One day you will know
You made it all this way on your own
And everyone that put you down
Will one day say they always believed in you

Chorus
Don’t live your life with regrets
Just go for it
Don’t sit home
For life to happen
You work for it
You pay for it

REPEAT CHORUS x1

I have no idea where I'm going and it feels spectacular!

Lyrics by Kimberly Kime (kimberlyinnc)
Vocals/Guitar by Gary McLaughlin (garymc88)

You’ve got your scars
And I’ve got mine
Don’t ask me
To walk ahead or behind
Don’t know else to say
But here’s a shoulder to cry on
Don’t know what else to do
Than to take a chance with you

It looks like we are paralyzed
Afraid to take a breath in afraid to take that ride (yeah)
Caught somewhere between the lines
So we remain paralyzed

I know we can
Fight our way past
To that place
Where we trust this thing can last
If we give up the ghosts
surrender to each other
I will hold you up girl
And end the chaos in your world

We don’t have to be paralyzed
No need to be afraid to take that breath or take that ride
Moving past the caution lines
Don’t have to stay paralyzed

There’s no reason to put a name on this
Just breathe me in and take my kiss
Into your secret hidden places
Don’t let fear erase this…don’t let fear erase this

We don’t have to be paralyzed
No need to be afraid to take that breath or take that ride
Moving past the caution lines
Don’t have to stay paralyzed

Smile On Your Face
by Mark Smith

Park the car don't worry about the world let's just start walking baby we ain't going too far
All the words you said girl I must say all day been running through my head

One call, two call, free fall for it all and if you're wondering I'll be in it for the long haul
It could rain and it'd still be a beautiful day to be here with you feels like fate

And if anybody asks me about the smile on my face, I'll just laugh and tell them about this day
And the smile on your face

If I could just have one memory for the rest of my life I'd be happy with right now
Even if all that I could recall was the taste of your mouth

Ch

Who cares about tommorrow
Today is so beautiful
Who cares about tommorrow
Because right now you're so beautiful

Nasa Street

Alan Gentle 2010

Verse
The folks you meet on Nasa Street are not like you and me
Astro physicists, top notch pedigree
They don't go to shopping malls in fancy foreign cars
They're busy making rocket ships and flying off to stars

Verse
Mr Plews at forty two is busy in his shed
Making wings and fusion rings all worked out in his head
His rocket's made from cardboard, held in place with glue
When it's dry he'll take a fly around a moon or two

Chorus
Nasa Street
See them out on Sundays
Nasa Street
Having so much fun
Polishing their rockets, checking all their charts
Lighting up their fuses and flying to the stars

Verse
The Warners on the corner are back from holiday
Astronauts in swimming shorts, they toured the Milky Way
Suitcase full of souvenirs, moon dust on their shoes
Showing off their sun tans that glow a lovely blue

Chorus

Verse
The Wilson boys love asteroids and craters that they make
There's hell to pay 'cause yesterday they dropped one in the lake
They're soaking up the puddles, mopping up the drips
And rounding up the aliens that crawled out of the pit

Chorus
Review, and so shall you be reviewed

It's a bit rushed, but I just about made it. Thanks Bubbles :)

Is This Loneliness
by David Butler

Why can't I write love songs like I used to
Why don't I feel passion when I choose to
And when I'm by your side why is silence not enough
Is this loneliness or is it love

I thought this would last forever
Our love would make it through the harshest weather
But now the clouds have settled in and we can't rise above
Is this loneliness or is it love

Or am I just a fool to keep on wanting more
Is it better to be loved like this than not be loved at all

But I don't feel comfortable these days
And I don't even understand what's changed
I know that I should fight for you
But sometimes it gets tough
Is this loneliness or is it love

BREAK

Or am I just a fool to keep on wanting more
Is it better to be loved like this than not be loved at all

Still I can't write a love song like I used to
And I don't feel passion when I choose to
Yeah when I'm by your side, the world is not enough
Is this loneliness or is it love

Yeah when I'm by your side, why is silence not enough
Is this loneliness or is it love

You rate each song from 1 - 10 (where 1 is poor and 10 is excellent)

Congrats Funk and lcjones.

lcjones, by far and away my top pick, but Funk was up there as well. And hats off to Soddy too, another favourite.

Personally, 4th place (and a close one) is a great achievement. Thanks for the votes and especially for the 10s.

11 non contestant voters is an incredible turnout, thanks everyone, and finally here's to Bubbs for running this.

First I'd like to thank God, for giving me the spirit to persevere through months of last place entries. Second I'd like to thank bubblingsoul for rigging the contest in my favor :o Flirting with the administration does wonders!

Thanks everybody :D I had a feeling this song would do good with the Muse audience, quite a bit more upbeat and happy than my usual acoustic stuff. I must be honest, I thought lyD was going to take this one after I heard his song. Jason I thought would give me a run for my money too. Lots of non-contestant voters this month too, thanks for coming out! It makes it more fun :D

A huge "well done" to everyone. I enjoyed all of the songs this month and I had no idea how it would turn out.

An especially big "well done" to the winners!

My personal favourite was lcjones, who happened to tap directly into my personal taste! I was also impressed by Nasa Street (good, clever song Len!) and Is This Loneliness and am surprised that Thinman didn't do better - I can only assume that his stuff isn't to everyone's taste.

Well done, Mark! Really nice guitar sound and a good, commercial overall feel.

Thanks to all the non-contestant voters, and to Bubbles for running the comp immaculately, as always.

Thank you to everyone voting. Bubbles, thank you for moderating the contest!

Congrats FunkDaddy! :) Excellent writing and tune to be sure. Jason, I admire your keyboard work! Len, I completely fell in love with Nasa Street.

There were some seriously hard choices to make. Every song was excellent in their own right. There were no slouchers! All the musicians put their heart and souls into their work and it showed in every note.

Thanks again.

Congrats Mark - your wins seem to be like London buses, if that makes any sense outside the UK :) Great tune.

lcjones got my top mark - "You Ain't Here Anymore" is a wonderful song to my mind. Mark was close behind, and I also thought Jason's song was excellent. Special mention to Len too, it's not easy to get 3 10s! That's a really good song.

Thanks Bubbles and all of you non-contestant voters :)

Congrats Mark (Funk Daddy) on your first place song. :D I had it as my first choice as well!! It was one of my favorites from you. I could hear that really good voice of yours in this one, it was not overshadowed by music, it was very very good! The melody was catchy, and the lyrics were good! Fantastic work.

As my 2nd choices I had as tied, Alistair and LC! LC, these lyrics really stood out to me, as well as the way you performed it and of course, I always like most of Alistairs stuff.

My honorable mentions are...Thinman...this is one of your best and David. :)

Thanks Bubbles for running this one

Kimberly :)

Congrats on the win Funk !! ... Go For It by Jason got my top mark... Great work by all.. 1 more thing for the Troll who gave me a 4 ,,, You can Kiss my Ass , multiple times where the sun never shines ..

My song was a dozen chords played and sang simultaneously and performed well above average and by any kind of a legit standard was not a 4 ... So again I must say Funk You!

So for you malicious Mofo's who think you can win by giving low marks that are not legit and undeserved FUNK YOU ! your a loser out of the gate unless you got the kahoonies to put a name on your backstabbing tactics !

Not to be mis understood Im not complaining about my finish ,, Im am just pointing out the malicious MF's who are sabotaging the contest .. My goal is to make it fair for all and not give advantage to Cheaters who could probably only stand a chance by tearing someone else down in a effort to pick themselves or their cohort up ....

Thanks to the Board for the Contest and the great people who love a fun competition showcasing their talent.. Looking forward to the next one.. Congrats again FUNK and all the fine folks at the Muse
I have been fortunate enough to get a great bite of the Apple of Life. One thing I know for sure. Watch out for the Worms!

Jeez Soddy, you're talking your way out of any future contests.

If someone gave you a 4, then so what. Your song didn't work for someone. Don't try to bully people into giving you better scores next time.

I thought we were done with the bitching in these contests. Funk has been scraping the song contest barrel for years, and so have I. He didn't get mad, he got better. Try to lighten up.

In a contest with 9 entries, like this one, and with 10 points to distribute, people will distribute them in different ways.

I gave a 10 in this contest (something I rarely do) and gave my lowest score as a 5. In other contests, I have given lower scores to some people simply to differentiate between the way I perceived the entries. In this contest, I noticed that someone else received a score of 3. Unfortunately, when there is a high number of entries, the scores cannot always directly reflect the quality of the work - they are a releative score, based on the other entries.

For example, if we have 3 entries, I can score a 6, an 8 and a 10. If we have 5 entries, I can score a 6, 7, 8, 9,and 10. If we have more than 6 entries, I either have to put songs on an equal footing (even if I think one was better) or I have to go below 5. People will make different decisions about that. I usually decide on a "floor" below which I will not score and give everyone who would otherwise have to score lower that score. That, however, is just how I choose to do it.

Three points to consider:

First, there were 11 (or maybe 12?) non-contestant voters here. It is quite likely (in fact more likely) that the low score came from one of those. When a contestant scores, the scores they give others are reflected in their own scores, after all.

Second, tastes vary. I remember once chatting with Nige about a song competition. Neither of us had an entry, but we had both sent in our scores. We compared them and he had the songs in almost the opposite order to the order I had them in. I can honestly tell you that I have never counted the number of chords in a song to determine whether it was good or not. I try to score around quality, even if the genre isn't one I particularly enjoy, but my personal taste will always have some bearing on the scores I give.

Lastly, 21 people scored in this contest. Had the person who gave you a 4 given you a 10, that would have raised your overall score by 6 points and your average to 6.81. In other words, it would have made very little difference.

I do like to see my scores. If I have a song like my entry here, which I didn't expect to do well, and I get a mix of high scores and low scores, I feel that the song may have something and may appeal to a niche group. If I get a series of "middle of the road" scores (as I did here), I know I have a song that is so-so and probably not one that should make it onto a set list.

Your scores included a 10, a 9 and a smattering of 8s. I would say it appeals to some people quite a lot!

Soddy, most folks on here don't vote on a whim. We actually take the time to listen and give it careful thought before we vote. While you may not agree with SG's assessment, I wouldn't brush it off! Folks in a larger population might have had a similar or poorer response to your song (or any entered). That's not saying any one of us is more "right" than the next. It is what it is.

I've learned that we ALL like to bitch and moan when we feel we have been slighted - but really, what motive would SG have had??? She didn't even HAVE a song in the comp. So your accusation is completely unfounded and bogus.

Why not post it for critique (if you haven't already) and see what folks say about it. Maybe there will be some things that sparkle and shine - that would be uplifting to hear about, and maybe there will be some "opportunities" to polish that baby further. Either way, ya really shoot yourself in the foot if you just dismiss the "4". Dig a little deeper and try to discover why and GET TO WORK on it!

The songs that we enter into competition here are rarely a completed, radio ready, magnum opus, darlin'. Was yours?

SodDaddy, why not notice the 10, 9 and couple 8's you got instead? :)

Maybe I shouldn't, but sometimes my score is partly a comparison as far as what I've come to expect from the performer. Last month you got my highest score (or was it the last 1+1 contest?) and as such, you've set your own bar high for me, this month your song didn't really jump out at me, I doled out a few 6's and yours was one of them. I don't care what my scores do to my own, I score 'em as I hear 'em. If my average vote/score for my own entry is 6 (as it probably usually is, to be quite honest)...that won't really change much in the grand scheme of my score.

I am not mad in the least and I damn sure am not trying to bully anyone... I just see what seems to me malicious manipulation.. I will not say that I would not like to place better but for me if I never win it doesn't matter.. I just like to play music for folks.

I have gotten consistent low ratings on good material and I have seen it done to others and have seen crap material finish higher than much better tunes due to what appears to be voting schemes

Salley if Im over reacting how did you score my 1+1 tune love Love LOVE and my other 1+1 tune Sister Sally , I actually scored a 2 on that 1 tune and it was a true song that was well performed ?

I actually gave a 2 once to a cat called Rockin Robby here at the muse ,he said he had written the song in remembrance of his dead friend but when I listened I realized the music was stolen from Tim Mcgraw.

If I wrote a tune for my dead friend I would not steal someone else music thats for sure.. I felt it deserved the mark in a case like that and when he screamed Bloody Murder ,I explained and he never replied..

Here 's how I scored em Folks

n the City - Thinman 8
You Ain't Here Anymore - lcjones 7
Big Bottom Girl - SoddyBottoms
How Is Goes - Alistair S 8
Go For It - Jason Kalman 9
Paralyzed - garymc/kimberlyinnc 7
Smile On Your Face - FunkDaddy 7
Nasa Street - Len 7
Is This Loneliness - lyD 7

My posting in this matter folks is not for me !!... I'll take the hit in future contest..... My purpose here is an effort to make it more fair for the people who work to put up something decent only to have it shot down by petty manipulators..

How could you vote me a 7 and not a 10?

EXPLAIN THIS NOW

I've come dead last in competitions that I honestly thought I should have won. Some styles just don't fly on the Muse, just because your song doesn't score well, doesn't mean it's not a good song.

Guys. Wow. ENOUGH.

Folks, not everyone is going to like what you wrote. That's just the way LIFE is. Some songs make it and some don't. You move on and try again, or you decide you can't take it and you take your toys to another sandbox.

This contest is for FUN. No one's winning any prizes here. Please try and take it in the spirit it's being given, and either participate and enjoy yourself or don't participate.

Short version? TAKE A CHILL PILL.

:D

Thanks. --Jodi

Ahh the great post-contest debate :) Soddy, as has been said above, people have different tastes and different voting methods. You're not going to get very far suggesting Salley, with no personal interest in the contest, was trying to manipulate things. It'd be a shame if she didn't give up her time to vote next time though.

Hate to break it to you, Robby, but that's how it works in the world of songwriting. In fact, that's how it works in ANY subjective medium. Some folks are going to like your stuff and some aren't. It doesn't matter what you or anyone else thinks of their opinions. You learn what you can, you improve over time, and you try again. Complaining that you didn't get a fair shake is kinda pointless. No one's "out to get" anyone here. (Everyone's volunteering their time here. What would be the point??) And anyone who thinks their songs are perfect, really shouldn't be here in the first place. This place is for people who want to *learn* and feel they have some room for *improvement*.

Just sayin'. ;) -- Jodi

Actually, opinions can't be wrong, unless they're stated as fact. Scoring a competition is completely subjective unless there are standard rules to judge by, in this case there aren't. A while ago I was a non-contestant voter in one of the comps here and not a single score was above 4...I honestly thought all the songs were well below average. The moderator questioned me on my scorecard and I backed up every score I gave and in the end he admitted he didn't agree but the scores were mine to give.

When you enter these competitions you're opening yourself up to be scored however the voter chooses. I for one prefer when there are a lot of non-contestant voters as they are usually a slight bit harder judges as they don't worry about what their scores will do to their average like a contestant will.

Hey Jodi

Thnx for the advice really !

But I'm not complaining - I do like low marks - possibly for the reasons expounded so eloquently by Alistair above. Better to get lows and highs - after all, a lot of people think Bob is a bad singer...........................I'm just insulting (jovially) the ones who gave me low marks

Please don't misinterpret my rants - I am well used to finishing in the bottom third in these monthly events - in fact every month this year !!! TeeHee - not much sign of improvement here Jodi

If I have a complaint it's that the song (not mine) I really thought was special finished well down the ladder and one that I hated was well up - it's exasperating man !!

What you say sounds plausible - but I'm not sure pandering to the consensus constitutes improvement ? - in fact I very much doubt it

Well done Funk - I thought the pacing and quirkyness of your song was a breath of fresh air, and certainly a slightly different direction for you! There were some other nice songs as well, but I honestly can't pick them out based on the submitter. That said, SoddyBottoms - you have a distinctive style and I liked your "fat bottomed girls" song. Len too.

As for the post-competition banter - I for one like it. Perhaps we can't see our songs the way others do, perhaps we get a bit immature - BUT WE CARE!!

If we stopped caring about songwriting and trying to be great at it, we would be like the gazillions of other musers who drift away and persue golf/fishing/basket weaving instead!

Robby, I'm just saying that what finishes top and at the bottom of the heap is subjective. You may not agree with it. But do you like everything that gets played over and over again on the radio? Maybe not. But SOMEONE did. In fact, a lot of someones do when that album goes platinum (do albums go platinum anymore?? <laugh>). People's tastes may not mesh - and that's what it's like in real life, outside of this message board. This is just a microcosm of that fact. So when someone's stuff doesn't do as well as you'd like, that's not "evil forces conspiring to keep that person down". It's just people's tastes not meshing. There's no one person to blame - nor is complaining to one person in particular going to help anyone in this case. It's just the way it is. And incidentally, I wasn't suggesting YOU were complaining to one person :) - but Soddy was - which is why I decided to jump in here in the first place. Sally didn't deserve that kind of attack. In fact, everyone's entitled to their opinion as a judge and NONE of the judges deserve to be attacked for that opinion.

Fab, I wasn't suggesting that people shouldn't discuss after the contest is done. But as I said above, blaming one person for a song not doing well? That's just not fair - or even realistic. The reality in these contests is that if one person scores a song low, that song could still do well, even without their approval. So obviously, it's more than one person that feels that a song didn't deserve to place. And in many cases, that's not because a song is BAD, it's because it's not to someone's taste. That's the reality of this contest - and it's also the reality outside of this message board.

So feel free to discuss - but no personal attacks please. That's when I get angry. And you wouldn't like me when I'm angry. ;)

Gary and I are planning a secret revolt on the whole darned bunch!! ....last place!!--this is ludicrous, I tell you, it's a conspiracy, and it's all Salley's fault.

Now, we have a right to complain... , but we will get in line...at the back of the line...where we belong. :D

Thank you Jodi, sincerely, for the website, contests, and all you do to bring it to us, even when we are so not worthy of it most of the time. :)

Ask anyone who's been on this board for a while and they can tell you my style hasn't changed much, I've only gotten better: improved my production and arrangements, improved melodies and probably the biggest thing is become a better singer. I've spent time in last place or close to it, even recently. There is a certain style that does consistently well on the Muse contests, leaning more towards acoustic pop (take a listen to my winner this month) and folk, but there's also a point where a good song will win no matter what.

I've always seen the Muse as a good sounding board in the contests because of how diverse the listening audience is. I know my heavier rock songs don't do well in the contests because they're really not that great but they're also not big on this audience, they're just fun to write and I always like to enter the contests, even if it's likely I won't win.

I've just mailed you the secret itinerary!! ;)

I've always been of the firm belief that people get what they deserve in these contests, I think I am a prime example. I'm not this place's favourite muse (not that I think anyone dislikes me, I don't really spend enough time here!). Last place in this comp for me and Kim I reckon is probably more to do with the quality/performance of the recording (alas, I didn't spend much time on it, not because I didn't want to, more because I can only really do it when my darn wife is out the house and she's been hanging around incessantly for the last month!) so I'm really not surprised by the last place. But if I check out my last two showings in the full song comps where I had fully produced and polished songs I got 4th and 3rd which I was chuffed with.

People will vote your song low if its not so good, simple as that. I actually gave Soddy a 6 and Robby a 7. But I remember commenting on both of these songs in the song critiques forum and they both got mixed responses and neither have the songs changed much (if at all) as a result of the critiques, so I really don't understand how you wouldn't expect some low marks Soddy.

We're last, I deserve last because the rest of the songs were better overall than ours, (my fault Kim!) and I'll enter in a future comp for sure.

Can I just say congrats to Mark too - I gave Smile on Your Face a 10, the first 10 I've ever given in a 1+1, 2nd for me was Jason's and I gave that an 8.

Cheers!
