September 1+1 Song Competition
The philosophy of the 1+1 comp is that it is something someone could perform at an open mic night. Typically it would be one guitar, one voice. Simple effects may be used but bear in mind the open mic idea of one voice and one live instrument and you won't go far wrong.
You are not allowed to enter your song if you have paid for the production, mixing, mastering, writing or performance of either the Lyric or Music. For no part of your song can you have paid anyone money.
Deadline For Entries: 6th - 11th
Voting: 12th - 15th

Burn 'Em All
© ANeckender Music
I’m comin
And hells comin with me
It’s drinking up time
In this old saloon
You had an ugly world
But now it's over
And not a moment
Too soon
He stood on a mountain top
In a ghost city of soldiers
This time it’s got to stop
This time it’s over
Burn ‘em all
Let’s burn ‘em all
God said to the Devil
Let’s burn them all
What makes people do
All the things they do ?
They can never steal enough
And now they just ran out of room
They die for fun
Burned out like the sun
No pride no dignity
They’ve even got suicide bombs
He stood on a mountain top
In a ghost city of soldiers
The devil said to Jesus
Where’s your mother tonight ?
We're gonna burn ‘em all
Let’s burn ‘em all
God said to the Devil
Let’s burn them all
So set fire to the night
Paint darkness on the morning light
This place is history
Like an iron star in the sky
Their hearts pound so loud
They can’t hear nothing else
They pray right out loud
Just to save themselves
Listen to the thunder
As the lightnin strikes
They’re going under
It’s happening tonight
We're gonna burn ‘em all
Let’s burn ‘em all
God said to the Devil
Let’s burn them all

Fresh from their musters and straight into war
Battalions of soldiers marched onto the shore.
Some there for love of their God and their country
Others were fighting for more
In a war between civilized men.
Praying for silence that follows the storm
They called out to mothers and wives safe at home.
Barraged and beleaguered, they fell like a forest
Then bled side by side, all alone.
And they died there like civilized men.
I look to the heavens and wonder at us
How angry we all seem to be.
While inside a doorway, a victim of war
Longs for a moment of peace.
The winners and losers, the treaties and deals
The wounds that will fester and never quite heal
The soldiers amassed at the edge of a nightmare
Eating their last blessed meal
In the strongholds of civilized men.
I look to the heavens and wonder at us
How angry we all seem to be.
While inside a doorway, a victim of war
Longs for a moment of peace.
There are no martyrs who die to defend
Just fathers and brothers, our children, our friends.
All that remains of the valor and vengeance
Are the tears we all cry in the end.
And we call ourselves civilized men.

Hey there Dad,
Been thinking 'bout you lately,
Are you looking down at me,
Wherever you are,
Sure hope you're doing OK,
I hope you're happy with what you see
V1
You raced your motorcycle,
In a muddy country field,
'Til I came along and changed your plans,
Sold your bike,
To spend your time with me,
I wonder if I thanked you for all that
CH
V2
You worked hard in the factory,
While I went to school,
Chased the girls and played my guitar,
You and Mom took care of me,
'Til I moved out on my own,
Can you hear me saying thanks from where you are?
CH
Bridge
I hope I haven't let you down
Your memory guides the things I do,
Now its my turn to leave a legacy,
Maybe they'll remember me too

Words and Music: Alistair S
She may look into your eyes for reassurance
May look to see what trace of her remains
May come to your back door
As so many times before
There's a chance she may do that again
She may call you in the early hours of morning
May call you when she's lost or needs a friend
May catch you unawares
Off your guard and unprepared
There's a chance she may do that again
A woman, once a lover, a promise you can't keep
An itch you can't identify on nights you cannot sleep
Her finger tracing patterns of a man you used to be
A woman, once a lover, now a distant memory
Who once knew all there is to know about you
How you changed because nobody stays the same
But she's been changing too
She's not the girl you knew,
(And) Chances are you'd fall for her again
That woman, once a lover, that promise you can't keep
That itch you can't identify on nights you cannot sleep
That finger tracing patterns of a man you used to be
That woman, once a lover, now a distant memory
She has needs and she has hopes and aspirations
She has plans and she has roles that you could fill
She had you in her sights, and
There's chance that she still might
But chances are, you know, she never will
She has seas you never charted, she has depths left unexplored
Conversations never started, feelings unaccounted for
There's much left to discover, but it's best you let her be
A woman, once a lover, and a distant memory

He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not
Wendy DuMond
He loves me
He loves me not
He loves me
He loves me not
And the flowers bloom all around me
And they never stop
Petals coming down
On the ground they rot
Petals sliding down
Little forget-me-nots
They are silent
They are sad
And they never stop
(Bridge)
And they feel like silk
On my fingertips
But they cut like knives
Falling from your lips
He loves me
He loves me not
He loves me
He loves me not
And the flowers bloom all around me
And they never stop
They never stop x4

(Nigel Quin)
She can walk across the water
She can walk upon the sand
Maybe travel on horseback
Or just walking hand in hand
A carriage will be just fine
Maybe a Limo sometimes
We can go anywhere I choose
But my baby doesn’t do shoes
No my baby doesn’t do shoes
She will smile at the people
When she walks down the street
They stop and stare
At the girl with nothing on her feet
There can be no denial
The charm of a barefoot smile
I don’t mean to confuse
But my baby doesn’t do shoes
No my baby doesn’t do shoes
When the weather’s not nice
I will carry her over the ice
She likes it when I take control
And she can really bare her sole
She can walk across the stream
There’ll be no cause for alarm
(but) make sure you use those stepping stones
Or hold on to my arm
No rocks or glass,
No nails or screws
And no burning embers
Coz my baby doesn’t do shoes
No my baby doesn’t do shoes
Have you heard the news?

better, I would appreciate it if you could listen through to the end
Leaving You Words & Music By Tracy-Ann Edridge
I have lived and I have loved
I have caused much pain
I would do things differently
If I had my time again
I know you want me to stay
And I don’t want to go
But when you ride the tidal wave
You’ve got to go with the flow
You’ve got to go with the flow…
Of all this world has thrown at me
And everything I’ve been put through
The hardest part of my life
Will be leaving you
I've said this before, and I'll say it again
Don't spend too long on grieving
Feel the loss
Cry, then stop
And then get on, get on with living
Please get on, get on with living
Of all this world has thrown at me
And everything I’ve been put through
The hardest part of my life
Will be leaving you
If love’s all I believe it is
Then we will still stay connected
I cannot be born again
But each day resurrected
In your heart and in your mind
I'll be there with love divine
But the hardest part in my lifetime
Is leaving you...
I have lived and I have loved
I have caused much pain
I would do things differently
If I had my time again
Of all this world has thrown at me
And all the heartache I’ve been through
The hardest part of my life
Will be leaving you
The hardest part of my life
Will be leaving you

Interesting how the same song received votes from 3 to 10 in a couple of cases. Some songs move one person and not another. All comes down to taste.

Like Zeek, I had "Civilized Men" way in front. It's a great song with a great lyric and is one of the best 1+1s I have heard. It moves me every time I listen to it. I think it should have won.
Wendy's was also great. Very atmospheric! I think I had Don top, followed by Wendy, with Nige and Thinman jointly running close behind. I enjoyed all the songs, but those were my picks (as someone said, it's all personal preference).
Sorry, Don (and Jonie). You wuz robbed ..

with Jonie/Daddio in 2nd
and Nigel 3rd.
I had the others in a bit different order than the turnout, but it is all a mater of taste as I think Colin said. It was a good group of songs, and a good amount of voters this time. It's always nice to see participation.
Thanks for running the contest Bubbles.
Whatever happened to the Collaboration contest? It seems we should have had one last month?

After that for me Daddio , Alistair , Colin and Thinman were subjective and I went the easy way and gave all the same marks..
My little Diddy was 1 that I had written about 5 years back and recorded shortly before the deadline ,this was the 1st time it has ever been on a word processor .. I also improvise this one and it varies ,sometimes it comes out better than others..
I really appreciate the High marks and comps from you folks.. Looking forward to the next time..
Thanks to Bubbles for keepin us straight and her extra effort to increase the voting pool.. Goood Job !!!
Thanks again to all involved

Had this been the lyric comp, Leaving You, would have received a very high mark from me. I did listen all the way through and think the effort was commendable but I have to say, I the lyric is good enough to warrant a real production and vocal if starsinmyeyes decides to revisit it at some point.
Thanks to Don, as usual, for making my lyric sound so good.

I was one of those with Civilised Men out in front, simply because I found it the most interesting original, musically. I had Chances and Burn 'Em All tied for second place.
I thought the overall standard was about the highest I can recall hearing in a 1+1 contest, so well done everyone!
