It takes a few minutes to debate whether you should try an idea, and a few seconds to actually try the idea. Just try the idea. :)

When collaborating electronically, or otherwise, try to be as positive as possible in your feedback.

There's nothing that quenches creativity, or certainly drive & work ethic, than the shooting down of ones ideas.

Try to see things from both sides of the fence, take a walk in the other persons shoes.

Take a break every so often, a different perspective on things can help you along.

I agree! I'm curious to know whether or not new members (musicians) are fully aware of the various forums and options on this site. If not, I can see how this missed this posting and opportunity. I'd sure like to see 4 more sign up so everyone could participate. Any chance of flooding the forums with requests for a day or two more? It would be a shame to exclude people from this. Just a thought.

I resemble that remark.
I know that jimski is having problems with his recording setup or he would be here. Maybe we should go through the song crit board and invite some to join us.

As for extending the sign up period, there's still a good eleven hours left, all times are for people living on Tulsa time.
As for giving notice that this contest is happening, I did have a post in the " Other Contests forum " for close to a month prior to the start of this contest announcing this contest and it has been advertised in the " General Music Forum ". Plus you must have had been an member for a month to compete in this contest.
So far we have seven full teams, I notice a number of musicians who have competed before in this contest who don't seem to be around or visit here very much anymore.
I will be posting the teams and the requirements and rules sometime on Friday or early Saturday morning, so there's still a considerable amount of time left to get your name signed up for this contest, hopefully we can get more musicians to get on board.
"A who's who of old timers" maybe so, but a guarantee of some great quality songs coming forward.
For those that are wondering about Tulsa Time. http://www.youtube.c...h?v=eJBeujAQf_0

Contest is now open and will run till May 25 11:59 PM CST which I believe is about May 26 5:59 AM GMT
I will in about a weeks time, post a pinned topic in this forum with instructions for posting the completed song and the judging criteria, and method of voting.
Now on to the teams
Neuroron - Martin-6
daddio - SatanInventedBras
Decker - TamsNumber4
Fabkebab - Graybeard
NigeQ - Billy
Neal K - Starsinmyeyes
FunkDaddy - No Future
And now on to the song requirements.
The theme for the song is "Summer" IE: The song should have a very definite summertime feel to it, the subject matter can be anything that is summer related, examples of that would be songs like, "Summertime" - Gershwin, "The Boys Of Summer" - Don Henley, "In The Summertime"- Mungo Jerry, "Saturday In The Park" - Chicago, "Summertime Blues" - Eddy Cochran
Requirements for the Lyricists:
The word "Summer" must appear in the title, or you may also use the words "Summertime" "Summers" or "Summer's"
You may use any format of Verse, Chorus, Bridge, or combination thereof, no restrictions on lyric structure
The lyrics need not contain the word summer in them, but it should be obvious the song is summer themed as that will be part of the judging criteria.
Requirements for the Musicians:
The song should be radio friendly, meaning the length of the song from start to finish should be no shorter then 2:50 or no longer then 3:10, with a target of 3 minuets flat. (Lyricists should also take note of this)
You may use any style or genre of music for the song.
You may use any amount of instrumentation in the song, from 1 + 1 to multi instruments.
You may use drum loops and or rhythm accompaniment, and sequenced loops, but they must be you own creation. No store bought loops except for the drum loops.
Vocals may be handled either by the musician or the lyricist or both team members.
Any questions, concerns or comments please address them in this thread.
Good luck everyone and I hope by the end of this contest we'll all be sitting in the shade sipping a tall cool one while listening to the fine selections of tunes presented here.

It's really quite possible, while trying to work out teams it's almost like playing 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon.
If need be, or if they feel it's warranted, a switch I think could be made with Billy and SIB
With Sarah and Daddio teaming up and Billy ponying with Sir Nige. (or were they a team before ? )
What say the members involved ?

I think a switch would be good. I have worked with Billy before and after the hard time I gave him last time, he'd probably welcome a switch.
It works for me, if it's ok with everyone else.

No problem, say you want to build up a drum track using E-Z Drummer or some other such program, that's fine, you want to add a bass track using Trilian Bass VST, sure. You want to use the presets or your own presets for rhythm accompaniment on your Yamaha Motif keyboard, knock yourself out.
You want to use some preconfigured loops such as Acid Loops, or some one's else preconfigured loops, nope, nada, can't do.
I hope that makes it sound clearer, if you're still not sure on what's allowed PM me with details on what you plan on doing.

For our part, I think we have a song ready - It was actually "written" last tuesday, but I have been doing the recording part. I am likely to fill up the remaining days with far too much musical tweaking/fiddling

My collaborator (stars in my eyes) sent five different lyrics. I chose the last one she would have expected. So the lyric is decided on, although it may need minor tweaking. I also have a melody - just need time to sit down and work it all out. I expect to have a rough demo to my collaborator by Monday, so we're in good shape. I think.

for your convenience a SoundClick station has been set up so you may listen to all songs in one go.

"Summers By Your Side" - Decker/TamsNumber4
"Just Like Summer" - Neal K/Starsinmyeyes
"Until The Summer Ends" NigeQ/Billy
"Summer Home" - FunkDaddy/No Future
"Dance The Nights Away (All Summer Long) - Neuroron/Jonie
"Don't Trust That Summertime Smile" - Daddio/SatanInventedBras
Judging - The suggested criteria for judging the songs should be as follows:
Song Title - Must contain one of the words, Summer, Summers, Summer's or Summertime in the title.
Lyrics - How well they portray summer or summertime themed subject.
Music - How well it suits and fits the subject of the lyrics.
Performance - How well the song is sold, believability of the song.
Production - How well the song has been recorded and mixed.
Length of song - If the song is within the 3 minute target zone.
Your own personal like or dislike of the song.
Voting
Each contestant must judge on all songs, except for their own team entry, nor can they vote on their team entry.
All non-contestant voters are appreciated and welcomed. Support and encourage your fellow Muse.
Scoring
I'll be experimenting with a new type of scoring for the selection of the top three songs this time round, hopefully I won't be stepping into a big pile of do do with it.
Each voter listens and judges what their top three picks are, of the eligible songs available.
You then PM me the the top three picks of the teams you have chosen.
In example:
1st. pick - Lennon/McCartney
2nd. pick - Obama/Bidden
3rd. pick - Rowan/Martin
Points will be awarded as follows:
First pick - 3 points
Second pick - 2 points
Third pick - 1 point
No other points are awarded to the remaining songs.
All song scores and score totals will be posted
This thread is for song entries only. For commentary, please use this link: http://www.musesmuse...40&#entry515624
