I Remember
© 2009 Michael Taub (MysteryMike), Rick Norton (Merlin)

Vocals: Mark Lee Fletcher

Lookin’ at the clouds
Seein’ shapes of plenty
Staring at the stars
And countin’ how many

Jumpin’ in puddles
Rollin’ in the leaves
Makin’ mud pies
And climbin’ the trees

Oh, I remember
I remember, the innocent days
Digging up buried treasure
A puppy licking my face
Yeah, I remember
I remember, all the special things
A time for dreamin’ cotton candy dreams
And flying on the carnival swings

Lickin’ an ice cream
Drippin’ down my face
Runnin’ thru the day
With no regard for pace

Skippin’ on home
Jumpin’ a wall
Skinnin’ my knees
Was just a battle call

Oh, I remember
I remember, the innocent days
Digging up buried treasure
A puppy licking my face
Yeah, I remember
I remember, all the special things
A time for dreamin’ cotton candy dreams
And flying on the carnival swings

Now I skim through life’s pages
Like the stones I skimmed before
Just thumbin’ through past ages
In a time where less was more

Oh, I remember
I remember, the innocent days
Digging up buried treasure
A puppy licking my face
Yeah, I remember
I remember, all the special things
A time for dreamin’ cotton candy dreams
And flying on the carnival swings

Full of Secrets
Copyright 2009 Corinne Curcio

Song Link

Your face is Full of Secrets
Your eyes are filled with dreams
Your heart is a wishing well
Drop a coin into waiting streams

You conceal the situation
You used to breathe the sun
Now you're wandering in a prison
But you're not the only one

You dwell in misfortune
Into the fog you slip
Stop singing songs of repentence
Laughter's left your lips

Where is the place of wonder
That you used to know?
Don't turn your back
Don't let the shadows grow

You dwell in misfortune
Into the fog you slip
Stop singing songs of repentence
Laughter's left your lips

Your face is Full of Secrets
Your eyes are filled with dreams
Your heart is a wishing well
Drop a coin into waiting streams

Make me a man (tonight)

by ShaunMadrid smile.gif

Link to play the song

Lyrics:

Verse 1
I know, I've got to stay the course,
If I want intercourse,
Try to play it cool.
Pretend to like all her friends
Feign interest in stuff they'll say,
Smile like a fool.

Sleep with me, Can't you see,
I can't handle this virginity (anymore, anymore)

Chorus

Make me, make me, make a man tonight.x 4.

Break

They say Sarah Colbert down the lane,
Would do it all for the busfare change,
But that's not how I wanted it to be...
Can't you see...

Chorus

Make me, make me, make a man tonight.x 4.

Verse 2.
The guys all tell big fat lies,
Enough for the pullitzer prize (they'll say anything)
But I, lacking in charm in guile,
no wit, no secution, no style,
Just wanted to say...

Sleep with me, be my first,
Got a feeling that I just might burst (Overload, might explode)

Chorus
Make me, make me, make a man tonight.x 4.

Brown-Eyed Son

words, music, performance by John Smyth

[v1]
If I had to choose
between the things that I have won
and those that I have loved
I could let some go
but not you my brown-eyed son.
Because I never knew
a love that I could not outrun
until I held you first
in my arms that day,
oh you my brown-eyed son.

[v2]
I have watched you grow,
and I have seen your changes come,
It's like a freight train,
rolling on down the line,
for you my brown-eyed son.
And though this world is hard,
it's from this world that we are spun.
Don't let it make you cold,
or take that heart,
from you my brown-eyed son.

[bridge]
I've got a reason for living.
If I've taken more than I've given,
well, I could be forgiven... uh huh, oh.

[v3]
And when the sun sinks low,
and my time down here is done,
oh just let me go
and stand up tall,
oh you, my brown-eyed son.
Because I never knew
a love that I could not outrun
until I held you first
in my arms that day,
oh you my brown-eyed son

A collaboration

lyD-(David Butler) Music/Vocals
and
Kimberlyinnc (Kimberly Hales Kime) Lyrics

http://soundclick.com/share?songid=8326754

Ride Until Sundown

I see the bodies strewn along the way
Belong to those who paid the price and those who couldn't pay
Social security's a joke
You gotta swim if you can't float
Fight or you'll get slain

I hear the buzzards craving one more meal
They want to pick my bones clean before I seal the deal
With every foolish path I take
Every turn along the way
Lessons are revealed

There's no roadmap in the sky
But I won't stop I'll keep trying

CHORUS
I'm gonna ride until sundown
No one's gonna show me the way back home
I'm gonna ride until sundown
Now I see I have to make it on my own

Now salvation's close enough to touch
Asking for directions was not enough
I dodged the dead ends, I missed the sinking sand
Now I'm headed for the promised land
Yeah I'm headed for the promised land

INSTRUMENTAL

CHORUS

Goodbye Sweet Child- My first entry

http://soundclick.com/share?songid=8219790

Lyrics- Tarheel (Terry Strickland) Music and Vocals- Bob Turk

Goodbye Sweet Child
©2008

V1
We don't talk about the accident, there's no need to
We're just thankful for the time we had with you
But we still can't think about you without crying
It's hard to look ahead but we're trying

V2
Last night we attended your class graduation
It was really hard a bittersweet situation
Made us so proud when they called your name
All your friends said without you it wasn't the same

Chorus
Goodbye sweet child now you're home
Holding God's hand pure and free
I can almost see your face
Saying "don't cry for me
Don't worry I'm happy here
I'm where everyone wants to be"
Goodbye sweet child
Goodbye sweet child

V3
Your grandpa and grandma don't have much to say
To them life is not supposed to go this way
Their hopes of watching you grow through the years
Have been replaced with memories, grief and tears

Repeat Chorus

Don't Lead Me On
Neal K

You drive me crazy when you say, “Maybe.”
Come on, Come on baby, don’t lead me on.
You like to tease me, ‘cause it’s so easy
But if you won’t please me, don’t lead me on

Don’t lead me on a road that you don’t want to go down
Then leave me here stranded halfway
Don’t rev me up if you want me to slow down
You brought me here, baby, now stay

You think it’s amusing, picking and choosing
But if you’re refusing, don’t lead me on

What Colour Is Love?

The lyric emerged during the 3-month-long 50/90 songwriting challenge this summer.
There are two versions of the song: rock and acoustic (folk/blues/gospel).
This one - just completed - is the latter.

DonnaMarilyn (Donna): Lyrics & Billy Playle: Music/arrangement/instruments/vocals

http://soundclick.com/share?songid=8340272

(v1 )
There’s the grey fog of grief
Of the grim disbelief
When you’ve lost once again
What was dear to your heart
Or the steel-blue of pain
When the tears want to start
But…

Chorus
In the dark shades of night
When sleep has long gone
And thoughts overwhelm me
As the hours grind along
Can anyone tell me
What colour is love?

(v2)
There’s the umber of sadness
Deep-space black of madness
Or white gold left behind
By stars that have died
Or the purple of violence
That so many will hide

Chorus
In the dark shades of night
When sleep has long gone
And thoughts overwhelm me
As the hours grind along
Can anyone tell me
What colour is love?

Bridge
Perhaps it’s the mixed box of crayons
A lonely child holds in its hand
As it carefully fills in the contours
Of a family in fairytale land

(v3)
There’s the beige of old-fashioned
Or the wine-red of passion
When blood starts to pound
And emotions run deep
Or the pearl-silver silence
As you watch a child sleep
But…

Chorus
In the dark shades of night
When sleep has long gone
And thoughts overwhelm me
As the hours grind along
Can anyone tell me
What colour is love?

Outro
Does love have a colour?
Or a sound we can sing?
And if love has a colour
Is it in Everything?

Hi Guys heres my attempt that I did in the last few days,

Lyrics and Song by Dave Gerard © 2009

Lost As You

You are my,
Lost and Lonely Friend,
You live life to the end

And your dreams,
All lined in neon
But the meaning has all gone

And it always feels like you can't win,
Your not comfortable living in your skin
How will you find out what could have been,
When your living you life through a magazine

Lonely days of winter
Just need to see through
You tell me that your lost....
But honey, I'm as lost as you

Can't you see that your lost my dear,
It takes more than the makeup to hide that fear
You can't believe that your nobody girl
Just a little lost child, in a little lost world

Lonely days of winter
Just need to see through
You tell me that your lost....
But honey, I'm as lost as you

Bah, I like to enter new songs in the comps, "debut" them if you will. I had a new song that I thought I'd finish in time but I'm stalling out on the verses, lyrically. So here's my latest:

The Sweet Pain
by Mark Smith

We hit the wall before the war
What the hell we fightin' for?
There's no love left in this town
You burned all my white flags down
So what are you waiting for
Make it nice and quick if you're so sure
So baby if you need to be free
Be as free as you need to be

It's the hurt you just can't explain
It's The Sweet Pain
Plans mislaid, the name of the game
Is The Sweet Pain
It's the love that will you make insane
It's The Sweet Pain!

Standing in the rain like a movie scene
But you tell me drama or comedy
Hey director, you go ahead yell cut
I'll write the hit the song so we can make an extra buck
Even when you tell me I'm immature
The way that you're naked tells me you're unsure
So baby if you need to be free
Be as free as you need to be

It's the hurt you just can't explain
It's The Sweet Pain
Plans mislaid, the name of the game
Is The Sweet Pain
It's the love that will you make insane
It's The Sweet Pain!

Sometimes you have to breathe just to see if you can breathe
Sometimes you have to see, just see if you can still see

It's the hurt you just can't explain
It's The Sweet Pain
Plans mislaid, the name of the game
Is The Sweet Pain
It's the love that will you make insane
It's The Sweet Pain!

I'll throw one in. I need to redo my vocal on this. Always thought it was terrible, but I'll put it in for the heck of it.

Never Land
by Wendy DuMond
production by Mike Caro, SubStudio

http://soundclick.com/share?songid=6843696

Peter Pan is pushing 60
And Wendy's a soccer mom
The Lost Boys have all been found
Except the one who's gone all wrong

Tinker Bell's clerking the token booth
Out on the Jersey Turnpike
It was the only job that met the qualifications
Of a geriatric wood sprite

(Chorus)
And Captain Hook
Stands alone on the deck
Of his ship run aground on the sand
The kids are playin' video games
And no one comes to Never Land

Tiger Lilly's working as a cashier
At the Cherokee casino
She's been workin' there since the
Mermaid's Lagoon
Got flooded by El Nino

Mr. Smee went away to NYU
Got himself a graduate degree
And Starkey works a corner
with his vending cart
selling hot dogs and iced tea

(Chorus)

And Captain Hook
Stands alone on his pirate ship
Just Missin' his hand
Nothing's been the same
Since the croc went away
Around here in Never Land

John's the pilot of a big jet plane,
just flyin' the friendly skies
Michael has a job filling inventory
delivering office supplies

Peter's shadow is floating away
Bouncing through time and space
But Peter doesn't even miss him
And the shadow doesn't know his face

And Captain Hook's
Still on his pirate ship
Shouting out commands
But there's no one to hear but the stars
And the moons that surround Never Land

And Captain Hook
Stands alone on his pirate ship
Just Missin' his hand
Nothing's been the same
Since the croc went away
Around here in Never Land

Tag

The kids are playin' video games
and no one comes to Never Land

Love 2.0 (electric version)

© 2009 Andrew Richardson

1/ New girl of the modern world crimson hair and china face
Waking up here in my room together at the perfect place

Wanna be better
Wanna bit more
Wanna build bigger
Than its been before
We're gonna rewrite all the rules
Just let it go
Love 2.0
Love 2.0

2/ We know how to make it happen -magic when your close to me
Raising love to a new level charged with breathless energy

Wanna be better
Wanna bit more
Wanna build bigger
Than its been before
We're gonna rewrite all the rules
Just let it go
Love 2.0
Love 2.0

Br/ This wont play out like our parents- office jobs and paying rent
Going to make a different pattern- Never going to go the way they went

Wanna be better
Wanna bit more
Wanna build bigger
Than its been before
We're gonna rewrite all the rules
Just let it go
Love 2.0
Love 2.0

I cross-collatoralised my betting with a double.
Good to have commentary on how the pack shapes-up on the way into the curve.

Congrats guys smile.gif A well-deserved win. I thought this was as strong a contest as I've seen - I really had trouble differentiating between songs. Both of the winners scored highly for me, but also I thought DonnaMarilyn's song was lovely. It was a great pleasure listening to all of the entries.

And thanks Kim, I enjoyed my first proper collab!

edit: I just noticed, special congrats to Mark for achieving a 1.0 and a 5.0!

Well done, Terry and fabkebab! smile.gif

Terry, I knew you were going to nail it. wink.gif

Overall, I found the standard of the songs very high. It wasn't
easy to fine-tune the selections.

Congratulations, Terry and to Andrew!

I had a hard time guessing this one. I loved vtoutlander's submisson, but realised that it wasn't to everybody's taste. My bet was on Andrew's entry, but any one of many could have won! I also had Neal's and DaveGerard's entries rated very highly smile.gif

Congrats Terry and Andrew! I thought all the entries were outstanding. I loved Kimberly and LyD's song, Alistair's, Donna's, Fakebab's, Corrine's..really they were all good. It was hard to judge. I don't even mind being last in this pack of talented contenders. rolleyes.gif

Thanks for letting me play and to Nigel for running it for us. biggrin.gif

Well done and thanks to anyone who voted for my song -

I really enjoyed all the entries, and I had several (maybe even 5?) scoring 4 or greater - One of those was tarheel's, but there were so many others that I didnt think I was in with a shout- Very good work all around!

I loved vtoutlander's submisson, but realised that it wasn't to everybody's taste.

Certainly not to my personal taste either - but I don't believe it should interfere.
"Brown-Eyed Son" for me was the most convincingly authentic and in-the-pocket in terms of style and genre conventions.
Whatever label we stick on it and whether or not it meets my snotty personal preferences, it stood up and stood out as real and serious.
I felt the same for Love 2.0.

They were both complete ideas which worked fully satisfyingly on their own terms, in my opinion.
Although neither are my particular cup-of-tea for listening choices, they deserved recognition in my book and earned equal marks at the top of the song-stakes.

Mark - it was me.

I lashed a few 1.5s around as well.
And some at 2.0
Bruto ma justo.

Ones I marked down were due predominantly to broken bridges - well, in my ear-hole the damage most generally happens on the bridges.
From the melodic movement, my ear-holes are telling me the intent of direction, and yet the actual harmonisations miss the mark.
It's those broken bits that cause me most pain - well they would wouldn't they - sticking out sharp little things they are.
And I found Mark's sounded to be the most in need of musical repair.

You're all welcome to sharpen knives when I post my own entry.

I gave Alistair 2.5 for personal innovations in sonic palette.
And I gave Terry the same because it was close even without a cigar.
Which I think is pretty damn good at my stingy rate of marking.

Turns out Terry won - "well done Terry mate!!" - so my Simon Cowell impersonation clearly needs a lot of rehearsal-time.

Congratulations again to Terry.

Hope I don't have to apologise for owning up.

Doesn't surprise me actually (we seem to be on quite opposite spectrums of musical taste), but I do feel better that it wasn't a personal vendetta. No apologies necessary on this front. Thank you for satisfying my curiousity smile.gif

I think, overall, this was my lowest overall scoring on my scorecard in quite a while. I gave out a few 1.5's of my own, don't know if it was the mood I was in or what but I found a lot of the tracks to have quite a few production issues that hampered my enjoyment of the tunes. Corinne's great guitar work as usual for me, transcended her not-so-great production quality but a lot just didn't have that quality of music or melody that got me to overlook the production. Easier to overlook it in the 1+1 competitions as I believe that's the spirt of those comps. Production for me can be a score torpedo.

Oh good grief and heaven forbid about the possible misperception.
Happy you take it that way - you know by now I am a supporter.
And I do try real hard to make sure personal taste doesn't come into it.
(Geez - a previous best choice of mine in one of these contests was both country AND western.)

Your song was one of my favourites - sort of a cynical take on Spandau Ballet's "True"

Another fine crop of songs, and the best ones came out on top. Andrew always sneaks in at the end with something brilliant!

I too loved Brown Eyed Son. It was my first choice. I think I'm gonna stick Never Land over in the Song Crits at some point. I need to redo it. Or perhaps not. It may be one that just needs to be thrown away. It was the 2nd or third song I wrote at the beginning of my songwriting "career" which started two years ago. laugh.gif I think I've learned lots since then, but maybe not. I was certainly never happy with my singing on it and was never sure about the music Mike worked up for me. It always seemed a bit busy to me. Anyway, thanks again ya'll. It was fun to participate.

I got the top two and that way round. I'm not sure but I don't think I've given a 4.5 before, or very few anyways Terry. The song it didn't really grab me until the chorus and I kind of melted to the whole thing its wonderful. Fab, your song reminded me of Blink 182 a little bit!

Was fun voting in this one, lots of songs and lots of good ones too.

It was first time I heard Goodbye Sweet Child, was a really touching and brilliant song and a worthy winner of any competition and the other song showed great originality. Enjoyed listening to all the songs guys thanks
