2005

From January to December of this year we?ll be taking the top two songs from each monthly competition and placing them in the 2005 Muse?s Muse Song of the year Contest...

The winning songs will compete in one final contest...

If there is a tie for second place in any of the monthly contests this year, or a three way tie for 1st... The tie breaker will be the song with the most first place votes, if the songs are still tied then it will go to most second place votes... if they are still tied then they mathematically have to have the same number of 3rd place votes... At which time all songs tied will move on to the final contest... If someone chooses to not have their song move on to the final competition for whatever reason, there will be no replacement.

However as of June 2005 we've had a change to the scoring system for the monthly competitions. If there is a tie it will now be broken by the highest score out of 5 received or the most occurrences there of by a contestant. If they are tied still it will then be broken by the next highest score or most occurences of and so on. If by chance they still remain tied both or all songs will move on.

The song that you enter into a monthly competition must be the same recording with no changes made for the final competition...

The top finishers can place their songs in this thread at the end of each monthly vote...

The 2005 Song of The Year Contest will run as follows:

The 23 songs will be split into three groups initially.

January - April / Group A
May - August / Group B
September - December / Group C

Each groups voting will be split into three day voting periods.

Group A will run from Sunday Dec 18th to Tuesday Dec 20th
Group B will go from Wednesday Dec 21st to Dec Friday Dec 23rd
Group C will run from Monday Dec 26 to Wednesday Dec 28th

Voters will send in their top three picks for each group.

A song will score 5 pts for a 1st place pick, 3 pts for a 2nd place pick and 1 pt for a third place pick.

The top 2 songs from each group will move on to the finals which will be held From December 29th to January 2nd. In the final round of six, Voters will once again send in their top 3 picks with the same scoring format being used. If there is a tie in any of the group votes, the tie will be broken by a count back. The song with the most 1st place votes will move on, if that doesn?t split the tie then the most 2nd place votes. If it is still tied after a count back a tie breaker vote will be solicited.

Nobody who has a song in in the comp in any group will be eligible to vote. Any of these members who don?t have songs left in the final round of six will then be able to vote at that time if they choose.

Also you must have signed up as a member of Muses Muse no later then December 1st 2005 and have at least 25 posts to be eligible to vote.

Here is a breakdown of the voting schedule and when,how and who to send your picks to.


Because some may be going on holidays, you can send your picks for any group in earlier (starting now) or later then the dates specified as long as they come in before or on Dec 28th.

However to make things easier, if you will be around, please send your votes in on the dates specified with your messages marked Group A Votes, Group B Votes etc. It?ll help Nige and I to keep a little better organized and both of us will be sending MysteryMike an Archive of the votes in each section to verify the count thru the boards archive message feature.

A reminder, Nobody who has a song in the contest now will be allowed to vote in any of the initial three group votes. So the following people are not eligible to vote: RLD, Monktrump, Neal K, fabkebab, LMK, Tony Graham, dougmaverick, ktinberg, venusdelite, Lanqusaya2, thomasitty, Jaymz, SilkyTofu & skido85.

If you are voting, please vote for the top 3 songs in each category. Some members have multiple entries in a group. Please still vote for what you feel are the best songs in each group. In other words, don?t spread your picks around to be nice. Just pick what you feel are the best songs regardless of who entered it and how many entries they have.

7 votes in so far. Every song has scored points. Two songs have made a bit of a breakaway but I sense it?s early days yet.

I have received 11 votes so far. At this stage there seems to be 3 main players, but I would be a brave man if I wrote off any song at this point. I will say that every song has received at least one top vote, so that should give you an idea that this really is clash of the giants.
