7:31 Introducing our next performer...

His name is Marty g, or Nawtyboy (if you're nasty Posted Image) and he has a voice that can make women melt in matter of seconds... In the Award show, he's up for "Sexiest Songwriter Male" and it should come as no surprise, since the acoustic compositions he treats us to always display the kind of raw emotion that makes the listener take notice.

Right now, he's coming all the way from Bournemouth England to entertain us during the pre-show with a special recording of "Listen To The Rain". Please make him feel welcome everyone: here is the one and only MARTY G !! Posted Image

Listen To The Rain
? 2003 Marty G

Lyrics...

(1)
Dont listen to the rain
Tells lies of love and loss
Been falling down for days
Sings about what is wrong
Its playing games, with your broken heart
Dont listen to the rain

(2)
I cant feel, lonely now its gone
Was this all for real
Only heaven knows
It takes the wheel
and seems to rollercoast
So dont listen to the rain

CH
I was never in search of something new
I didnt mean to cause you all this pain
You should have never known but you do
Cause you listened to the rain

So you listened to the rain
And covered all the answers up
To hide all the shame
To avoid the painfull stuff
was I to blame
Im sure youve heard enough
Since you listened to the rain

CH

Hey there, David. Everything seems to be going quite well so I thought I'd start off with my "hi". I'm Jodi, and I'm coming to you live from the snowy wilds of Newmarket, Ontario Canada (why do I live here again? It's only December, I know there's something like four months left of the snow, and I'm STILL HERE. I wonder about me sometimes. ;)).

I hope you're all aware that this day is actually Winter Solstice - the shortest day of the year. So in order to stave off our depression with there being less light today than on any other day, this Awards show is a great idea! :D

I'm really looking forward to hearing people's songs and such. It's looking like it'll be a great party! :)

All the best to everyone (and thanks especially to David and Bobby for pulling this all together!),

--Jodi

P.S. - Thanks for sticking with us, Marty! Is that you singing? You're awesome! :D

7:41 Introducing our next performer...

For our pre-show we have wanted to feature compositions by new members on the board; and who better to pick than Bbadsy ?

Friendly and eager to learn, he has just recently started to play the guitar and attend college for music, and he's already showing great promise. The song he has chosen to perform for us is only his second attempt at writing, "Wonderful Night To Be Sleepless". Here he comes...BBADSY !!!!

Wonderful Night To Be Sleepless
? 2003 Bbadsy

Verse 1
What a wonderful night to be sleepless,
What a wonderful night to be sleepless,
Nothing to do but be with you,
Nothing to say I wanna stay this way,

Verse 2
The black canvas with diamonds to spare,
Don't have to touch you to know that your there,
Can feel your love it thicker than air,
It's a beautiful moment one we can share,

Verse 3
The day starts to threaten here comes the sun,
Brightening the sky, night on the run,
Another day for us to be one,
Can't give you my love you've already won.

Hi... Rick James here

Great song Marty! Great way to start the show...

By the way I would like to introduce my wife Paula on my right and on my left is beautiful daughter Jennifer. She was married in August and thought she would never get to wear that dress again...

Anyway I'm very excited about the evening...

... more later

Excellent song, Bbadsy! For learning guitar only a short time ago, you're doing really well! And I love the fact that the song has no chorus - and doesn't really need one. Good job!

Welcome, everyone. Glad to see you all here. :D

All the best,

So my son Jeremiah walked in and read my last post and said "Where the hell am I?" :o

It was the picture I had... (And actually my wife and daughter went to the store buy Christmas goody ingredients.)

But Bbadsy: He wanted me to tell you that yours was a kick-ass song and he really liked it...

Good job

Hey guys, I'm Neal K and it's my pleasure to present the first award of the evening at the Muses Muses forum Award... the Best Reviewer of Lyrics, and the best reviewer of lyrics and music.

As a songwriter myself, I know how important GOOD feedback is. I wish a site like this existed when I started writing almost 20 years ago. I would have become much faster the brilliant songwriter than I am today :)

Providing a good critique is a lot of work. Sure, it’s nice to hear someone say, “Loved it, don’t change a thing”, or “Likey, likey.” But if you’re serious about your craft, you’re probably looking for something more, something that will really help you to improve as a writer.

Fortunately we have several members who do just that. They go above and beyond to help the new and experienced writers. So without further ado… here are tonight’s first winners as voted by our members.

Best Reviewer - Lyrics
Hobes

Congratulations Hobes!! Those who disagree with your advice are just plain wrong! :)

Best Reviewer - Lyrics & Music
Yukon

Great job Yukon!! Our members voted overwhelming for your outstanding reviews.

Congratulations to all the nominees as well.

Let's keep up with the "quality" critiques

Victor here...

8:05 AWARD PRESENTATION

Hello, musers, this is Victor Smallwood, karaoke whore, aka the one who writes lyrics in his underwear. I am honoured that I have been chosen to present a couple of awards tonight. I would like to begin by thanking David for choosing me, and hope that I do him justice. There are so many things about this site that appeal to me, and I want to take this opportunity to mention a few. First of all, it is obviously each and every one of you. Each one of you is immensely talented in their own way, and I am pleased that you have welcomed me as one of your own. A special mention goes out to my now fellow moderators, and the job that each of you do out of the goodness of your hearts every day. Your guidance and knowledge are an inspiration to me. I would be remiss to not mention Jodi, the one who started it all. Jodi, I have never met you personally, but I am sure that you are a wonderful, giving person, and I really wanted to thank you for giving me an outlet for my writings. Pause for applause. I am also honoured to be nominated myself for a few awards. For that I thank the ones that thought to include me, as well as anybody who voted for me. Anyways, this is starting to look like an acceptance speech, so the award for the Most Likeable Poster, or the Awww?award goes to clairejeanne. And the Bumpity-Bump award goes to Shemuse.

"Awww" Award - for Most likeable Poster
clairejeanne

"Bumpity-Bump Award" for Biggest Post Hog
Shemuse

Both contestants are well deserving and should be congratulated. See you in awhile.

8:02 SONG PERFORMANCE

OK, a bit of background to this one before you listen if ya don't mind?

When I was originally approached to write a song for these awards I was already in the middle of working on one of my own songs. I written the music and most of the lyrics but decided to "donate" it to the cause rather than trying to write something from scratch in such a short time.

I then decided that it might be in the spirit of the forum to seek collaboration from others to re-write the lyrics into something more appropriate. I had quite a few responses, all of which were excellent in their own right but none of which were exactly what I thought I was looking for at the time. I sent some of these responses to a couple of other people here to critique and ended up with even more ideas and suggestions. I was totally and utterly confused!!

Then, last week, I had a visit from my older brother, Alister. I explained my quandry to him (since he has always been a better writer than me) and we ended up, over a few beers, going through each version, taking snippets from each and adding a few words of our own to create a kind of musical "Pastiche".

We were still trying to create something deep and meaningful until Alister suddenly slipped in an idea that was so silly that we just couldn't let it go. It just kinda HAD to be done ;)

So what we ended up with contains the input of all those who contributed lyrics.. with a little bit of Kiwi (that's New Zealanders for those who didn't know) humour thrown in.

Oh... I invited a few mates around to help with the chorus. If it sounds a bit messy it's just probably because we had a few beers in the process - sorry 'bout that ;)

OK... turn it up and have a listen - hope you enjoy.

I'll post lyrics in a few minutes, once you've had chance to listen (so as not to ruin the little "twist" in it LOL)

Cheers

Simon :)

oh, and PS - for those of you who followed that "Prosody" thread, the chorus in this is a perfect example of truly awful prosody LOL

Congratulations to to both Yukon and Hobes! You deserve it guys!

Ooo - and Clairejeanne and SheMuse were just announced as winners too! Congratulations to both of them too!

Victor, thanks so much for your kind words. It's honestly been a pleasure getting to know all of you and I'm VERY glad you find the boards to be useful to you. I hope one day we *will* all meet one another! That would be fantastic. :)

All the best,

Congrats,guys!You deserved it.

Introducing our next performer...
What can we tell you about Simon that you already don't know ? That he's an artist, a father, a citizen of the world, a philosopher...he's all that, but to us he's simply Simon. Posted Image

For the first edition of the MMFA, he's kicking off the show with a brand new song he's written with with his brother Alister and some of his Musers friends: Stewart, Hobes and Rustic Bucket. To complete that group effort, he has invited some local friends to sing along on the chorus, in which celebrate the art of drinking inspiration with a little bit of Kiwi (New Zealanders) humour thrown in! Posted Image Posted Image

Singing "Nectar of Inspiration", ladies and gentleman, please raise your beer for the one and only SIMPLE SIMON & friends !!!

Thanks for the award, Neal, and Muse :).

I'd like to thank my dear old Grandma for providing me with good drugs for all those years!

And my stepmom, for almost always being willing to post my bail.

Thanks all!

By the way, good songs, Marty, and Bhad???.
