Logging at 22 minutes the CE gently takes flight with “Daniel’s Song” a smooth flowing intro piece that serves up delicate acoustic guitar groove against inviting piano, & passionate vocal harmonies from Haasch. This first is quite dynamic as it flows & ebbs its way through to emotional fruition. Track 2 “Can we Just Be Friends” keeps thing moving in the smooth direction with impressive & upbeat vocal delivery from Haasch with steady flowing rhythm, smooth melodic guitar accents making for an impressive follow up ballad. Track 3 “Closure” shifts gears a bit with it’s striking vocal intro, gradually building into an impressive ballad with passionate vocal finale from Haasch. The CD makes a great first impression dashing out 3 solid songs in a row. The musicianship of everyone involved is clearly above the bar. Along the way you will notice lush instrumentation with things like acoustic jazz guitar, piano, impressive percussive accents including steel drum, strings, horns, cello, Hammond Organ chops & lush harmonies layered everywhere. As this CD slowly unfolds its obvious the players in Fare’s band are quite accomplished. Kudos goes out to the impressive drumming from Amador Solis as he brilliantly pushes the natural accents. What I like the most about this band is how well they seem to groove together, testament to hundreds of hours of rehearsal time no doubt. Now turning our attention over to Haasch - as for his vocal abilities, his voice works extremely well within the confines of this catalogue. His voice goes down smooth & fills the space peacefully & unobtrusively. I might add Haasch takes several vocal risks throughout the EP indicated to me a strong & confident vocal ability. I suspect some of his vocal influences are – Jason Mraz, & Daren Hayes (SavageGarden). All songs are extremely well crafted & consistent across the board. This EP from Haasch delivers 5 solid tracks all providing thought provoking wisdom with messages that are uplifting, passionate & positive. The music of Paul Haasch has everything you would expect from a professional pop-rock production. From upbeat “Til I Come Home” to the perfect finale piece “How it Ends” this CD pretty much has something for just about everyone.

It’s had to find any serious weaknesses with this EP. Songs over 4 minutes tend to drag you to the finish line, & as a formality I don’t give 10 stars to EP releases – just full length CD’s.

From start to finish “Secure Heart Borders” is an impressive collection of music from Paul Haasch. The music is highly passionate, uplifting, & extremely passionate. The songwriting – world class, all consistent musical experiences, each one possessing a unique personality, flair, & signature groove. Note for note, song for song there isn’t really weak piece on this entire EP. The writing & playing abilities of Paul Haasch & his band are rock solid, the melodies & harmonies are well crafted, & the lyrical content is packed to the hilt with conventional wisdom & messages of hope. Last but not least the vocal presence of Haasch is world-class. Paul Haasch is an infectious artist worthy of spotlight, attention, & praise I look forward to hearing the full length CD from Haasch very soon.
