Somewhere along the '60s, Dylan and George Harrison stopped to have a kid, and JP wound up with a half-constricted throat and songwriting skills that's a cross between fun love and rage at an unpopular world. Jones is based in folk, but he leases himself out to other sounds as they veer near his web. One of the Most folky you can play for your kids is 'As If', with words being 'as if a mouse was humble / as if an eagle was proud / as if a sky was blue / cause it missed a cloud / as if the frogs went a-courtin / and the cows came home / and a horse'd forced a rider / for a ride of her own'. Cute, almost silly song that may or may not get to a point you already half-realize. And like Dylan, the title song is sure full of thought and laid-back impatience. 'made my camp on the brow of the hill / fires flickered in the valley below / they held their inquisition in the tower of Babel / couldn't get religion it was time to go / back to Jerusalem by the sea / they can take a picture but they can't take me'. Luckily it ain't heavy, it's Jones.
