Everything from the way he wrote to me, to his songwriting skills, are not at all what the whole mankind is used to.
OK,perhaps is it pushing the envelope too much, but one must honestly admit that he cannot be described!

Lapsang Souchong is a concept CD without boundaries. Maybe the only one I've found is Ian's vocal technique.
I don't know if it is intended to be so (I think it is, and that's not a bad thing), or if Ian really can't do more, or better.

I do believe in a massive potential, but Ian, you have to work on your voice!
If you find it necessary, of course.

The whole CD showcases an impressive sonic spectrum, which doesn't go really well along with "sprechgesang" vocals.

Lapsang Souchong came along with a much needed written explanation (with lyrics and references). I guess I will be lost right now without it!

It says:

"...It was designed to have a lot of information to uncover..."
"...The idea was to make an album that would be a treasure map, to lead listeners onto interesting things. It's the tip of the iceberg, not the whole thing."

Nothing can be more true than those statements! Yes, it is a treasure map, but you can get lost if you don't pay attention enough. Yes, it is the tip of the iceberg. I listened to the whole album many, many times and immersed myself in it.

It is not made for all ears, but for ears craving new musical landscapes, new combinations of sounds. Not of notes only, but sounds!

Either love it or hate it, this album can't leave the listener indifferent. Well done, Ian.
