CD REVIEW: Bluerock Harvest
By Ben Ohmart - 05/21/2007 - 10:34 AM EDT

Artist: Band: Bluerock Harvest
Genre: Acoustic Folk/Rock
CD Review:
Rock-folk-alternative indie? That's a fair description of Bluerock Harvest's pile of leaves. Acoustically blue, this trio of young rockers has a lot to say, all launching from the mouth of lead singer/guitarist Alex Shindeldecker who comes on as a high pitched complainer sometimes, other times he's a street-wise country face who seems to know a lot for not having a gray beard on his face. Alex also wrote the 9 songs on this 30-something minute cd. For variation's sake, I think he could stand a collaboration or 2. But I like what I hear. Songs like 'Hurts To Be Free' kinda tug at the heart, a good blend between the Hero singing his lament, and an up tempo tune that moves you forward instead of back.

They've got a college following, covering tunes by Neil Young, Foo Fighters, Keen, Radiohead, and others. Seems they have 31 original songs as of now as well. Not bad. The cd is a good indication of what you'll hear on stage, I fancy. Nothing overblown or overdubbing. Just some keen, sometimes understated, unplugged music that isn't afraid to follow its own trail. Sometimes blazing away with a knife through the thick brush.
