I have been writing creative fiction, poems and songs since I was 10 years old and the passion never stopped. Song ideas cowering deep inside emerge in me and other songwriters through different modes of expression. Sometimes I'm inspired by conversations, life events, human experiences, social issues and movies and books that evoke my emotions. Also interviewing performing artists and attending concerts as a newspaper reviewer coupled with lush landscapes of dreams and nightmares revealing my soul's expression taps my spring of inspiration. Often I have to let the idea percolate while other times the whole lyric and music just erupts out of me. Since I never know when the muse will pass my way you'll always find me with a pen and pad in my hand for opportune moments.

What works for me may not necessarily work for another songwriters that I will interview for my column. A few writers' lives and songs are like open books while others prefer to communicate in mysterious, deeper compositions The best songs are the ones that create strong empathetic connections between the writer and listener. Throughout the ages, we are all basically the same emotionally and experience love, loss, joy, fear, sorrow in one way or another. For me there is nothing that compares to a listener who is helped or inspired by my creations.
