By Gian Fiero - 08/26/2006 - 05:40 AM EDT
Artist: Angela Abelian
Album: "Hustler"
CD Review:
Genre: Pop/R&B/Dance Sounds Like: ? Technical Grade: 9 Production/Musicianship Grade: 8 Commercial Value: 7 Overall Talent Level: 7 Songwriting Skills: 7 Performance Skill: 8 Best Songs: Single Weakness: Lacks contemporary commercial appeal. CD Review: Angela Abelian, a singer/songwriter from Russia via the UK, who I had the pleasure of meeting while teaching at the Seth Riggs Summer Vocal Camp, has a hot song in her possession that if promoted properly, can be a valuable marketing tool for her talent and career.
The lyrical content of this track, which is about a woman who refuses to get hustled, benefits from funky, Prince flavored rhythm guitars and a catchy chorus. While Angela does not get a chance to flex her vocal muscle on this song, she certainly shows that she is abundantly capable of capturing the emotion, character, spirit, and attitude of a spunky commercial track with the ease and attitude of a seasoned diva; proving that when given a chance and the right production, she can make the most of a recording opportunity.
