CD Review: Artist: Additional Moog (www.additionalmoog.co.uk)

Album: Lost Engines

Rating: 49%

Rating Key: 0 - 19% (It hurt to listen) 20 - 29% (Awful) 30 - 39% (Bad) 40 - 49% (Almost average) 50 - 59% (Average) 60 - 69% (Good, but has problems) 70 - 79% (A good record) 80 - 89% (You must check it out!) 90 - 95% (Best I’ve heard in a long time!) 95 - 100% (Incredible! Nothing like it!)

The record starts out pretty laid back, and four tracks in still hasn’t picked up the pace too much. However, it’s lead by some nice vocals from James Williams, some lo-fi production, and a slew of simple yet fitting melodies. The record runs pretty careless, seeming as though whether or not all the musicians hit the pocket or the tempo drags a bit doesn’t really matter. All of this with their obvious Wilco influence, and even some Ween characteristics - minus the hard hitting songs that those bands are able to put out.

It probably would have been better suited to have taken the best of these 16 tracks and made them into an EP… leaving the listener with something to be desired, rather than a record that seems to drag on a bit too much, and eventually making you lose your own engines.

“Additional Moog” qualify themselves as an Alt Rock/Country group, and liken themselves to acts such as Wilco, Pavement, The Band, and The Jayhawks. They base themselves out of Birmingham, England - and are currently promoting their release “Lost Engines”, as well as their single “Holy Jukebox”.
