By Gian Fiero - 08/20/2005 - 01:34 AM EDT
Artist: Codie Prevost
Album: "The Road Ahead"
CD Review:
Genre: Country Sounds Like: Brad Paisley Technical Grade: 9 Production/Musicianship Grade: 8 Commercial Value: 8 Overall Talent Level: 8 Songwriting Skills: 8 Performance Skill: 9 Best Songs: A Lot To Be Said For Leaving, Better Off Alone, Not Just The Beer Talkin' Weakness: Lacks vocal strength and agility CD Review: Codie Prevost, a singer/songwriter who was nominated for three Saskatchewan Country Music Awards, sent in a project that proves he can compete with today's hottest Country music stars like Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney, Big & Rich, Brad Paisley & Tobey Keith.
Though he may not possess the distinction that they have, he definitely has the performance skill and talent to deliver a lyric with conviction and personality as evidenced in the flirtatious "Not Just The Beer Talkin." His most commercial song, "A Lot To Be Said For Leaving," is well-crafted and has a poignant, if not unexpected ending that makes it the superior track on this CD.
With raw talent and a tangible passion for Country music, the road ahead for Codie Prevost won't be too rocky.
Advice: This project would have gotten higher scores if there was another ballad to complement "A Lot To Be Said For Leaving." It was needed to showcase depth.
