CD REVIEW: James O'Malley - "If Only In My Dreams"
By Stacey Board - 02/26/2005 - 03:28 PM EST

Artist: James O'Malley
CD Review: This is the second CD I received from Mr. O'Malley and it shows definite growth
as a songwriter. Some writers can fumble a bit when you compare their second CD with their first, but O'Malley has a greater energy and focus in these songs.

There is a striking resemblance vocally to young Paul Simon. He has a smooth,
light, breathy voice which is a fine compliment to his complex expert guitar
playing.

Then there is also a quality of innocence and humor that brings to mind Randy
Newman. The songwriting style is classic folk storytelling with a contemporary
feel and outlook.

“If Only In My Dreams” is a fine collection of songs written in a folk tradition and made uniquely Mr. O’Malley’s.
