CD Review: Put that Dido CD down and listen to this.

Hammond starts the CD with a sassy intelligent soulful groove “School’s Out”. She doesn’t let up from there. Her smoky sulty voice sounds like a warm organ tone itself and winds like a silk ribbon through 9 skillfully written and played songs.

There are influences of jazz, pop, soul and don’t be afraid, disco in her songwriting. Each song is very inviting melodically but with enough unexpected turns to keep it interesting. She knows how to write a hook and avoids clichés in her lyrics.

I have always had a hard time knowing which sounds more wonderful; a Fender Rhodes or a Hammond Organ. Do yourself a favor if you like that sound and get this CD and make your own decision. You will be very glad you did.
