CD REVIEW: the emergency – “how can you move?”
By Stacey Board - 02/22/2004 - 07:48 PM EST

Artist: the emergency
Album: “how can you move?”
CD Review: The emergency list the Who and Husker Du among others as their influences. They skipped at least two in my opinion, the Replacements, and Joe Jackson. They have that raw emotion balanced with clever sense of humor and heart.

This is some very good raw jangly guitar pop. The emergency is basically a trio of Aaron, Kevin and Rob but they make a full wall of sound. The songs are engaging and surprising. The band puts it out there with all they’ve got.

It's rough around some of the edges but it's supposed to be. They are not trying to be polished sugar pop. This is a direct hit. This is “I like beer and great fiction” pop. It's smart and loose and melodically intriguing and just plain fun. “All Over Town” and “Cracked Up” are two of my favorites but I liked every dang song of the 14. This one is going to stay in my CD player for a while.
