CD REVIEW: Tricia Alexander – “Grace”
By Stacey Board - 02/20/2004 - 10:16 PM EST
Artist: Tricia Alexander
Album: “Grace”
CD Review:
The CD is a collection of songs written by a poet, musician and Reiki Master. They are, as one might expect, reflections on lessons learned and contemplated in that context. For those who want substantive reflection in their music, this CD is perfect for you.
Alexander’s voice is quite supple and fine. She can sing sweetly and with a passionate growl. There is quite a quilt of songwriting on the CD. Eight of the sixteen songs are written by Alexander, two are traditional and the rest are written by others, including one by Randy Newman. Two of the tracks are spoken word poetry.
I think it is a wise choice, as the different writers’ voices provide rhythmic and melodic diversity throughout the CD. They also represent emotions ranging the spectrum from joy to sorrow. I came away feeling that the CD wasn’t about Alexander as much as it was about stories and lessons she had learned and genuinely wanted to share.
These songs as a collection offer reflection but are accessible and enjoyable for anyone.
