CD REVIEW: James Crouch – “Liberty”
By Stacey Board - 06/18/2003 - 06:40 PM EDT

Artist: James Crouch
Album: “Liberty”
CD Review: James comes from the old-school blues rock genre and he has learned his lessons well. I can see the smoky honky tonk they are all playing in as I listen.

There are some other notable artists contributing, namely Rick Steffen. The first track is written and sung by him with James Crouch playing the lead acoustic guitar. It's got a great Van Morrison vibe to it and is one of my favorite tracks.

There are quite a few familiar tunes on the CD including “Before You Accuse Me” and what I believe is a live version of “Feeling Alright”. Crouch is definitely an accomplished guitarist playing acoustic, electric and slide with equal expertise.

The whole CD has a very authentic feel to it. This isn’t shlocky slick blues. This is a collection of songs played and sung by those who definitely know how to do it. Fake blues stands out like a sore thumb but this is the real deal played with heart.
