Artist: Darren Curtis Skanson Album: Solamente Romanz CD Review:
Darren Curtis Skanson is a classical guitarist - #1 in Colorado! – who has written over 200 pieces of music and can pluck out enough Bach and Beethoven on the Spanish guitar to keep long hairs excited too. Indeed, ‘Fur Elise’ is a Beethoven composition (probably his single most famous) and very elegantly done it is.
But most of what you’ll hear on this 50 minute, 12 track cd is from the skilled mind and fingers of composer Skanson himself, a man with a gentle touch and a romantic streak in him 2 miles long. He’s backed efficiently most times by Wayne Templeman who provides all the strings.
The result is a moving, peaceful collection of instrumental songs, not a wealth of show off pieces that only strive to confuse. Your thoughts will be sleepy but collected in this Solamente Romanz. Beautiful tunes, and strikingly performed.
Darren’s previous effort not only sold 10k cds in 2 years, but reached a whopping #11 on the classical chart of Billboard. Both, very hard things to accomplish in this overpopulated life of ours.
