The myth about "the poor man's copyright" and other myths

Many songwriters believe they can establish and protect the copyrights in their songs by using "the poor man's copyright." That is, mailing the song to yourself in a sealed envelope. That is a really false urban legend and ought to be dispelled. There's also the myth about registering your song with a performance rights organization.
