CD Review: Melanie Laine, a Country singer from Yorkton, Saskatchewan, sent me her debut CD that contains finely tuned songs that capture the essence and spirit of Nashville. It is characterized by the great lyrics, superb production, and fervent performances that make Country music my favorite genre.

Each song that was selected on this project fits Melanie's voice like a glove fits a hand. The project features three of the best songs I have heard so far this year (2005). All of which would have a prolonged stay in heavy rotation on any Country radio program.

"If Love Is A Weakness" is a flavorful, uptempo track that celebrates love and displays Melanie's vocal strength and agility. "I Am Yours," is a simple ballad that makes a simple declaration: I am yours. Period. Just a statement of fact. No need for any conversation about it. This is the type of song that can easily get on your nerves...and have you singing it 5 minutes later. It also features tight backing harmonies. The best and most commercial song, "I Can't Hold The Wind," is an emotive and profound ballad that benefits from superb production and a Grammy Award (and Muse's Muse Award) winning performance. This is the track that can catapult her to another level.

When a project contains this many quality songs, it's easy to see how time flies when you are enjoying the music you listen to.

Advice: Keep it up! You are in good hands and good company.
