Artist: Paul Iwancio Album: “Open Heart Stories” CD Review:
At first glance at the CD cover and Iwancio’s gently long haired smile, I assumed I would be listening to folky songs on acoustic guitar you might hear around the campfire. Boy was I underestimating Paul Iwancio.
These songs strike me as basically folk songs given the right amount of pop and powerful treatment.
Take writing that is classic storytelling and message writing. Blend with melodies that are indisputably hooky. Decorate with excellent electric guitar work, dynamic percussion and layered backing vocals. Sprinkle sparingly with drum loops and effects. Sing with agile pleasing male voice.
What you end up with is Paul Iwancio’s “Open Heart Stories”. It has a great energy throughout and gives you some great advice and messages without ever being heavy handed or preachy feeling.
You will likely enjoy this CD’s catchy melodies and great playing, but don’t say I didn’t warn you that you might actually learn something and come away feeling better for the rest of the day.
