CD REVIEW: Joanne Redding – “How It Is”
By Stacey Board - 01/22/2005 - 02:04 PM EST

Artist: Joanne Redding
Album: “How It Is”
CD Review: The opening songs are bluesy with a honky tonk country feel. Then the CD unfolds with some songs that are more straight ahead country. But I think the strongest are where Redding’s writing is more of a contemporary folk/country feel, as in track 4 “Love and a Song”. She does blues well, but so do many other people out there. Her own unique voice comes through in songs like track 4.

I especially give Redding credit for “Credit Card Shuffle”, it is genuinely funny. Which is good because I just couldn’t resist that pun. The arrangements throughout the CD are totally solid and all the players are right on target. The overall sound is impressively professional.

Redding’s voice has twang and power. I do wish she would stay in the more relaxed part of her range as she does in the slower tunes.

Redding is a talented songwriter with a solid collection of songs in “How It Is”.
