CD REVIEW: Jane & Gord – “The Blue Madonna”
By Stacey Board - 01/11/2005 - 06:09 PM EST

Artist: Band: Jane & Gord
Album: “The Blue Madonna”
CD Review: Jane & Gord are Jane Eamon & Gord Brush. Eamon does the majority of the songwriting, acoustic guitar playing and lead singing. Brush adds luscious guitar parts and also adds some to the writing. The main instrumentation is acoustic guitar-based. There are also fine backing vocals, subtle percussion, a bit of fiddle, and some piano. The musicianship is excellent throughout the CD as is the production quality.

The style of Jane & Gord has roots in traditional folk but with their own unique voice. There is a pleasant blend with blues and gospel. In fact the title track of the CD was inspired by a gospel mission. The songs are largely about people and place, telling stories that are touching and memorable.

Fans of the art and craft of songwriting will appreciate the care and heart that is put into these songs.
