By Gian Fiero - 10/16/2004 - 09:22 PM EDT
Artist: Compilation: Outshun Entertainment Presents
Album: Straight Bangin' Vol 1
CD Review:
Genre: Rap Sounds Like: ? Technical Grade: 8 Production/Musicianship Grade: 8 Commercial Value: 8 Overall Talent Level: 8 Songwriting Skills: 8 Performance Skill: 8 Best Songs: Gotta Write, So Real So Raw, Southbound, Kick It To Em Weakness: ? CD Review: Cajun and Creole cuisine is not the only thing cooking in New Orleans, Louisiana. Outshun Entertainment whipped up this flavorful compilation which features notable performances by Bionik Brown, Urban Legend, Southbound, and X-Caliber.
Unlike most compilations which are merely a collection of incoherent tracks assembled for the purpose of presenting a completed project, the crew at Outshun Entertainment elevate themselves above the competition with the commercial music production of Bliss Izgood, who produced sixteen of the seventeen tracks on the compilation and has all of the potential (but not all of the equipment) to be the next Dr. Dre. His melodic grooves provide the canvas for guest artists who skillfully, creatively, and sometimes playfully, paint pictures about a variety of subjects that have urban and mainstream appeal.
Remarkably, all of the songs on this compilation have personality and distinction, but the two commercial gems that are deserving of attention (and heavy radio rotation) are "Gotta Write," and "So Real So Raw," which are just two of seventeen reasons why Outshun Enertainment will not be Outshined.
Advice: Crank up the marketing and promotion machine! You have artists on this compilation that you can ride to the bank.
