CD REVIEW: Javelyn – “Cut To The Chase”
By Stacey Board - 08/29/2004 - 06:48 PM EDT

Artist: Javelyn
Album: “Cut To The Chase”
CD Review: Javelyn is a singer/songwriter you can dance to.

The songs are simple grooves and melodies with lots of studio loops added. They are mid temp, not hyper techno beats. Javelyn lays it all down with piano, and shows influences of soul, pop, R&B and dance.

Her voice has a quality that sounds like Aimee Mann singing low and full of emotion with drum loops. You can’t really pin her down into any category which is nice. Javelyn has a fine voice with depth and expression

There are a lot of singer/songwriters adding loops out there, but Javelyn does have a unique approach to adding in the effects. As a bonus, they all sound pro. The electronica and the other players add rhythm and dimension without ever overpowering the song or the singing.
